occupational
therapy. children's
hospital los angeles. hollywood, ca. Kids
are so much fun to work with! I had such a great time at CHLA.
There was so much to learn and I felt like 3 months actually wasn't
enough. I was assigned to the acute wards where I was exposed to so many different diagnoses
and types of medical equipment and terminology. The children that I worked with were really
sick but they were also true fighters. In addition to getting
an occupational therapy education, I practiced changing diapers,
managing lines, and "scrubbing in". I also had the special
opportunity to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with
my clinical instructor. I didn't realize how small premies can
be until this internship. They're so fragile yet their
personalities can just melt your heart. I learned the proper
way to feed babies - did you know there are a bunch of different
nipples and formulas out there?! The staff that I worked with
was really cool and they all helped me survive the crazy schedules
and "on the go" environment. The coffee downstairs
was pretty good too.
