Hailing from Scarborough, Ontario, Bare Naked Ladies were formed in 1988 by Steven Page and Ed Robertson, who are still the band's main songwriters. They built up a keen following in Canada on the back of extensive small venue tours and their debut album sold more than half a million copies there. However it was not until the 1998 album Stunt that they broke through into the commercial mainstream worldwide. That album produced their first US number one single, One Week. Television appearances kept the band in the spotlight and they soon became a stadium filling live act in the States.
Their next album, Maroon, saw the band's lyrics taking a more serious and introspective turn. Page says of Pinch me, the song we see the band playing at P3: "It's about this bored guy, he's by himself in ths world; he doesn't know what he's doing. He can dream about big ambitions but he's just living his life sleepwalking." Whatever the lyrical content though, Pinch Me shows that their tunes are as bouncy and infectious as ever.
