These are 3 of my 6 tattoos. The one on my left deltoid is the Winged Calf from the Book of Kells. It represents the gospel of St. Luke, which portrays Jesus Christ as the Servant and Sacrifice. The large Celtic cross between my shoulderblades has 4 zoomorphic dogs encircling it. To Celts the dogs symbolized the Chase; which represents the change from day to night, the changing seasons, and the cycle of life. Dogs also frequently represent fidelity/faith in Western ideology. Prior to the coming of Christianity, the ancient Celts used the cross within a circle symbol to represent the four directions -- they called it a Wheel. The dragon encircling my right bicep has my name in JRR Tolkein's elf runes beneath it. The dragon's head and tail touch the edges of a full moon. The symbolism of this tattoo is complex. I will at least tell you that it partly represents strength which endures dark, chaotic times.
