THUS SPOKE ZARATHUSTRA
FIRST PART
1)The Wanderer
-has ventured beyond what was originally thought impossible
          >has climbed and summitted peaks of intellectual, personal and moral pursuits
-do not need ladders to climb these ascents
          >has learned to climb without assistance
          >no net or help to back you up
          >a stronger person rises up out of hardship and continued striving
*then out of a life of being pampered and protected
-to be able to surpass your dreams, achievements and limitations is an achievement in itself
-the highest mountain/most difficult obstacle is not necessarily direct forward progress
          >it is out of the deepest depth that the highest must come to its height
-love is the danger of the loneliest
          >one who is lonely may learn to love a great many things
2)The Vision and the Riddle
-favors those who venture out into the world
         >people who do not like to live without danger
         >not necessarily those who seek danger
*but do not take steps to avoid it
    -upward: gravity/loose terrain/burden
         >those things/obstacles applying force against Zs ascent
         >the trials and difficulties that face Z in his attempt to become Ubermensch
    -courage is important
         >emphasis on attacking; proactively dealing with problems and obstacles
-Riddle: a shepherd lay spasming, while a great black snake crawled into his throat and
     stayed there, hanging out
        >then the shepherd bit the snake and spit it out
        >the shepherd then rejoiced
        >the snake represents evil thoughts and personal abysses
3)Involuntary Bliss
-Overcoming personal abysses/inner pain leads towards perfection
        >must overcome problems/obstacles in order to evolve into ubermensch
-something about the afternoon, maybe at the beginning of dusk
        >dusk possibly represents light growing quieter
-from happiness that all light has grown quieter
        >perhaps happiness brings darkness?
-finding happiness and peace in uncertainty
-happiness comes to him because he does not seek it out
       >he does not try to be happy
       >therefore, he becomes happy through not deliberately trying to be happy
       >you get what you ultimately seek by not actually directly trying to achieve that thing
4)Before Sunrise
-night/darkness is the loneliest of all
-darkness is the :light for [his] fire
-wants to fly up to heaven
       >which is why he climbed so many heights
         (but what does heaven represent?)
    -doesnt like clouds
       >they interpose themselves
       >clouds neither bless nor curse from the heart
       >clouds interfere with his enjoyment of Yes and Amen
-doesnt like people who are like these clouds:
       >doubting and tottering
       >people who doubt and totter and waiver and interfere with Zs ability to achieve the
         greatest height
       >Z would rather endure thunder, lightning and hardship than doubting and wavering
-whoever cannot bless should learn to curse
-good and evil are like clouds
       >they too interfere with Zs connection with heaven
    -heaven: accident, innocence, chance, prankishness
       >it seems that uncertainty is a good thing and should not be replaced with things that are
         knowable and determinable
5)Virtue that Makes Us Small
-man cannot be made in Gods image
        >because man has become so small/thinks so small
        >cannot be made in Gods image because god would not think so small
-people are angry with Z because he does not care about the peoples virtues
        >but he does not care/is not bothered by their anger
-people become small because of their virtues
        >their virtues hobble and cripple them
        >their virtues teach contentment and resignment
   -genuine people are rare
        >most people are bad actors
-resignation: embracing, being happy/content with only small happiness
   -people want most of all:
       >that no one should hurt themselves
       >they try and please everyone so that they are not hurt
       >trying to please everyone to avoid pain yourself is cowardice
            *is not a virtue
-people believe that virtue equals that which makes people modest and tame
    -Z embraces being god-less
-Zs equals are those who reject resignation and provide their own will
-Z only welcomes knowledge and wisdom when/after hes had a chance to think it over for       himself
        >does not blindly follow/accept
        >do not be cowed by strong, dominant knowledge/info
*accept it only on your terms
-do whatever you will, but first be such as are able to will
-love yourself as well as love thy neighbor
