| 13)The Higher Man 1)don�t go to the �marketplace� *don�t try and preach about the higher man to the mob *the mob believes everyone is equal 2)the overman lives because God is dead *God preaches that everyone is equal *but without God, the overman is free to surpass the equality of others 3)being able to despise and revere, despair and not surrender is a good thing *do not be �womanish�, �servile� and part of the �mob hodge-podge� -they live with the small virtues, small prudences, contentment and the happiness of the greatest number 4)being brave is about knowing fear, but being able to conquer it *be able to be courageous not for show, but when no one is watching and no one knows 5)�evil is man�s best strength� *�man must become better and more evil� *but these are thoughts and guidelines that are not for everyone *they are not to be used/followed by the herd 6)in order to be the overman, but from man in general 7)Zarathustra does not want to be a guide or a beacon to others *does not want to be people�s savior or leader *each person should find their own way and be their leader 8)be honest to yourself and others *do not attempt or will to make things happen that are beyond your control 9) �beware� men that do not lie� *�the inability to lie is far from the truth� 10)bear your own weight in the �climb� to be overman *don�t make that achievement by letting others show the way 11)act for yourself and your interests *not for others, for your neighbors 12)(not sure) *something about giving birth makes one and his soul unclean *being pregnant has something to do with the fruit of your own creation *not literally pregnant with human fetus 13)follow in the footsteps of your father in your climb to ascend to the overman *do not run away from the vices of your father 14)do not judge your overall value and quality as a man by individual failures *a failed attempt does not equal a failed man 15)don�t be concerned with failures along the way to becoming the overman *because of the difficulty in the achievement, do not be surprised by failures 16) �avoid unconditional men� 17)the way you approach your goals is important *if you have the right outlook and approach, you will not be slowed or hampered by obstacles along the way 18) (don�t know, not important) 19)you�ll make mistakes whether you�re happy or sad *better to be happy *make something out of even bad circumstances 20)learn to laugh over yourself *don�t be drawn by yourself or your failur 14)The Song of the Melancholy -Zarathustra left the company of the people in the cave -he complained about the smell that the people exuded *he prefers the pure smell of the outside and the company of his serpent and eagle -when Zarathustra left, the magician spoke up, stating that his mischievous spirit was acting up *maybe alluding that even when men strive to be overman, they regress in Zarathustra�s absence -magician sings a song *poets are not �suitors of truth� -likens poets to fools �screaming colorfully� *although not a poet, Zareathustra is not a suitor of �truth� either -feels move comfortable in the desert or jungle �preying, prowling and peering� -talks about the eagle *the animal/aspect that looks deep into his own abysses (examines himself and his own failings) *pounces on �lamb souls� (attacks all that is meek) -a poet�s longings are eagle-like * �tearing to pieces the god in man� -Zarathustra has a longing for and rejoices in destroying those meek aspects of man that are bron out of and are associated with God and Christianity 15)Science -one of the higher men claimed that he cultivated the virtue of science from fear *fear being the original and basic fear of man *cultivated science to provide stability and allay those fears -Zarathustra denied this *Zarathustra says courage is man�s �prehistory� -man advanced by taking and emulating animals� virtues *human courage and eagle�s wings and serpent�s knowledge |
