FIRST PART
1)Ubermensche/overman/superman: an actualization of human potential
-people who raise themselves above the all-too-human masses
2)Zarathustra is descending down off the mountaintop to visit man
-like the sun setting, giving light to the underworld
-meaning he is leaving his enlightened position to go to the masses and divest unto them the
overflow of knowledge that he has
          >like the sun giving light to the world because it has more than it can use
          >like the sun, his wealth of knowledge does little good unless he gives and shares it with
            others
3)Advice from Old Man in the Forest
-Z went into the mountains and came back down enlightened
          >he became a chilled
-Z proclaims that God is dead
-old man believes that man will not appreciate, and does not deserve, and will distrust Zs gift
      of enlightenment
4)In the Town Square
-man is something that shall be overcome
-man is to overman what animals are to man
-overman remains faithful to the earth
-dont think about what happens after you die
          >people who do so dont like their current life
-do not disdain the physical body or its physical elements
     -man is a polluted stream
          >a polluted stream will pollute another body of water unless that other body of water is
             large enough
          >the overman is that large body of water
          >the overman can incorporate the polluted aspects of mankind without being himself
brought down by those impure traits
     -religion is not good if:
          >it praises/focuses on other worlds or other existences than this
          >it teaches to loathe and have contempt for this body and its physical entrapments
          >it teaches to have contempt for pleasure
5)Tightrope Walker
-man is the meeting point between the beast and the overman
-man is not an end in itself

          >by gaining virtue you are truly happy
          >that you can be content once virtue is attained
7)The Afterworldly
-god(s) is/are the creation of man
-the afterworld was created because of people who were suffering and incapacitated in this
        world
-created a reason to look forward to something
-instead of putting faith in religion,
          >put ones faith in ones own body
          >the body is more honest and it speaks of the meaning of the earth
8)Despisers of the Body
-the soul considers itself an end/the end
-the self seeks more, controls, compares, overpowers, destroys
-the self uses all other things as tools
          >including the mind and the ego
          >the self can make the ego suffer
*the self has the capacity to act on the ego
-the body controls the self which in turn controls the ego, the senses and the spirit
          >when the ego is acted upon, it reacts and attempts to compare and learn how to continue
             or discontinue the self-imposed stimulation
-religion does not lead to the overman
     -religion created respect and contempt
          >respect for the spirit as an end and for the afterworld
          >contempt for things that disdain the spirit and lead away from the afterworld
-in actuality, the self created respect and contempt
-the body controls the self, and therefore, can control what it respects and has contempt for
9)The Pale Criminal
     -criticizing the legal system
          >re; what basis people are judged to be criminals, to be guilty, and therefore how they are
            sentenced
-only judge and punish the act
          >never the thought
          >everyone has evil thoughts
-good and evil are subjective things that change with time
          >another age and another evil and good
          >but people dont want to hear/admit that their values and ideas of wrong and right change
            with time
10)Reading and Writing
     -not everyone should be literate
-literacy and the knowledge that comes with it are special things
