| Eurobasket 1983 Paris (France)
Galis was the top scorer of that tournament (33,6 ppg) for the first time in his career. His best performance came against Sweden, when he scored 46 points. It was still to early for the greek team to achieve something better than usual, even if the qualification did not come because of bad luck. |
| World Championships 1986 (Spain)
The greek national team looked forward to qualify to the FIBA world championships for the first time, in 1986. In the most important games for the qualification, Galis scored 47 (Bulgaria) and 43 (France) points, so sucess was certain. The world championships were held in Spain. Greece played amazingly and was finally named the world's 10th best team, even being extremely unlucky once again. The team seemed capable for more having already won the Balkan games of the same year. Galis was again the top scorer (33,7 ppg). His best performace, came against Panama, 53 points, that was also his best ever playing for Greece. Basketball's Pele, Oscar Schmidt, who was 2nd in the list, said: "if we played together, we could score for ever"! |

| Eurobasket 1987 Piraeus (Greece)
The year 1987 was the year of success for the greek team. In one of the most breath taking tournaments of all times, the greek national team won the gold medal in its own arena, an achievement that was not only a sign for the team's future, but also led the nation's youth to a new athletic way of thinking. Galis, 30 years old then, was at his best. In his worst game, he scored "ONLY" 30 points. Specifically he scored 37 ppg, 44 against Romania, 44 against Yugoslavia (after this game, legendary Drazen Petrovic said:"I'd like to play in the same team with Galis and give him the ball to score"), 34 against France, 35 against Spain, 31 against the USSR, 38 against Italy, 30 in the semi final against Yugoslavia and 40 points and the final against the USSR. Of course he was announced as the tournament's MVP and top scorer. |
