KlausiNikolaus

I was Born in 1946 and Studied Mathematics and Physics in Stuttgart/Germany. From 1972 - 1976 I was Teacher at College. Music has always been an Important Part of my Life and after two sleepless, pensive Nights, I handed in my Notice and began to Study Harpsichord Building under the Famous Pioneer Rainer Schütze in Heidelberg.

Since 1978 I have my Own Workshop and until 1985, I had made ca. 50 Copies of Flemish Harpsichords and I had always the Same Problem:

You have a Beautiful Sounding Close Copy of a Ruckers with the Original Compass C/E - c³. Because of the small Compass of less than 4 Octaves, You find no Buyer for it. So You Widen the Case, Get Statical Problems, Change the Construction, Get another Sound, Try to Improve the Sound, but: You Never Get the Same Sound, the Close Copy of the Original had.

In 1985, I Decided to make Close Copies of Historical Important Instruments in Cooperation with the Best Musicians and Historians and Physics is Helping me to Understand a little about Acoustical and Material Problems. In Former Times there was a Century Old Tradition of Harpsichord Building and the Famous Masters of that Time Knew Exactly the Taste and the Requirements of their Customers.

There are Only a Few Harpsichord Makers in the World, which Go the Same Way.

My Problem was then, to Find Instruments which Match the Requirements of the Musicians Today and Allow therefore a Close Copy. The Result are three German Harpsichords No Other Harpsichord Maker is Offering.

After a Period with Employed Cabinetmakers and apprentices, I Found out, that too Many Mistakes Occur and that I can Control No More the Quality of the Instruments. So I Decided in 1988 to Work Without any Helper On Myself. Since that Time, only Instruments that I have Made With My Own Hands are leaving the Workshop and I can Guarantee the Best Quality, I Can Make.

Since I am married with a Philippina and since I like Warm Countries, I have moved in 1999 with Home and Workshop to the Philippines.
