Arban Black Thunder (Jacko) was bred by Anne & Barry Cook of Arban Great Danes, out of a Blue Male (Crisselka Dam Buster Over Arban) and a Black Bitch (Masnou Quick Steps Of Arban). 4/4/93
Jacko was my first Great Dane and my first Show Dog. I started taking him to a dog training club, and showing him in monthly matches in Baby Puppy where he did quite well, I then went on to exemption shows where he did very well, he had very good movement, good type and an excellent coat. At open shows I was always placed, but realised there was a preference to fawns and brindles. Then came my first Championship show, South Western Great Dane Club, it was 1 day before he was 12 months old, so he was entered into Puppy Dog under judge B. E. Boustead. He came fourth in his class behind all fawns, so I was very proud, He was also entered in Maiden where he stood alone and won, ...... his write up in the dog world :-
"Arban Black Thunder, alone here, res in puppy, Black, in excellent coat, balanced with pleasing head and very good eye. Still rather immature."
I continued to show him, but he grew a dislike towards men, which made picking shows more awkward. I entered him in Richmond Champ Show later that year under Joyce W Mann in Junior Dog where he came 2nd and I qualified for Crufts. His dislike towards men grew stronger (for no apparent reason) but only while being shown, and occasionally women too. Eventually Crufts was here, so off we went, knowing what the outcome was going to be, I think I had gone past the point of being nervous, but Jacko obviously wasn't, he left his mark on the green carpet and wouldnt let the judge get near him. I was a bit upset, but still enjoyed my day watching the judging and walking around.
Showing him became impossible after a while, so I had to retire him from the show ring. As time went on I missed showing and made a decision (which I later regretted very much) and I found a pet home for him. He was spoilt rotten and very much loved, and I kept in touch regularly, but one day I received the dreaded phone call saying that he had passed away due to bloat.
Rest In Peace Jacko (sadly missed) |
