We had barely had the time to set up guard points, when 5 clerics of Boccob came wounded to the door.
I had a strange hunch about these people, and challenged them as the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. Of course, the orc immediately leapt forwards, totally ruining the careful positioning which we had arranged. Damn orcs.
The fight raged on for some time, with the orc actually managing to shake off a spell. Then the orc was horrendously charged by a number of villains from down a side-street. Despite an excellent slice from my glaive, the first of these stayed upright.
Weapons few in every direction at the edge of the library, arrows hurtled overhead, and finally the orc collapsed in a bloody heap. Just as one of the villains was about to stab Hodash in the throat, an arrow shot over the melee, and slammed into the wall, distracting the foe. Then he succumbed to a spell and collapsed asleep
Only one in three of the attackers was a serpent person, but they were well equipped.
After the fight, the high priest came to us, thanking us, and then told us that he owed us some truth. He led us into the catacombs under the temple. Thuron confessed that he had lied to us all. Claiming that he had no part in what we saw, before he opened a crypt. Thurons crypt.
The man claiming to be Thuron told us that he was really KStallo the last priest of Yig, a God of the Velossa. Lucius found him during his wanderings, and KStallo wanted to use Lucius knowledge, and therefore followed him home. He slipped into the temple to look at the scrolls. He found Thurons body, and decided to impersonate him, devoting himself to the study of the scrolls. It was him who slipped into Lucius chambers, startling Egil.
He offered to translate the documents. The one with our names on was a contract binding us to the Yellow Sign (to frame us). The other was a speech explaining the attack on the temple. Blaming us for both the attack and the murder of Counsellor Vallane. According to the scroll, we joined the temple, and bribed the evil snakemen, who agreed only if we slaughtered Vallane. As the story was that the cultists were within the temple, we then went mad and slaughtered the temple priests.
The document was addressed to Sealord Drakh and marked with the Yellow Sign.
Finally, after all the story, and the healing, etc, the Watch arrived. They took the bodies, together with the sole survivor.
Crockers Brick & Mortar. The place which led to the death of Percival Porpington. We went there in the early night. Sergeant Callamandero was at the door, Lon was here last, and the dwarf (the owner) was sure that it was Lon was the one who opened the door. Lon was the right hand man.
I searched the warehouse, but found nothing. The dwarf described Lon to me, and it matched the man that I saw from the bottom of the pit. I threatened the dwarf with paying us waregilt, as it was his factory which caused Porpingtons death.
Lons address (as given by the dwarf) was 22 Hope Avenue in Draks End, just off the Tent Market. We headed off there. On the way, we lost the Halfling.
In Lons home (a small square room), there was a nest-like bundle of blankets, together with a few snake scales, a washbasin, and a chest in one corner. The room stank of snakeman, but there was no sign of presence. We left the clothes in the street, so that people could help themselves, and returned to the inn.
We bathed, and rested.
The next morning, we were cheered by the entire bar, and greeted as heroes. Apparently we had killed the evil counsellor Vallane. The City Guard were searching the house and cleansing it. A proclamation had been posted on each street corner, declaring that we had smashed the Brotherhood of the Yellow Sign.
Even Moradon the paladin arrived to congratulate us.
Later on, a well-dressed man entered and came straight to our table. He opened a scroll, inviting us to a Grand Lighthouse Ball, as we were to be given the Order of Drakh at the Sealords Palace in 2 weeks time. We shopped extensively.
