The 2006 USAFHL
Entry Draft was hosted by the Nightmares H.C. this season to everyone's
surprise. That included the Nightmares, who were told two days before
the Draft that Commissioner Darren Phillips was making a visit to
Halloweentown and the Nightmares would be the host. Despite the last
minute notice, the Draft went off well, with 4 of 6 teams participating,
and with the Liverpool Limies drafting from a last minute list. Only the
Calgary Rage were not able to participate in some way or another and
they got compensated by having their 5 picks transferred to their Free
Agent pool for a total of 8.
The Day started
with Calgary receiving the first pick which was passed on because they
weren't there, and Liverpool made its first selection off their list
which was Tomas Kaberle. Kaberle, a Defenseman, became the #1
Draft pick of 2006 and then the Draft continued with the host Nightmares
which made their first pick of the Draft. The Nightmares selected Right
Winger Brian Gionta, expressing their need for a good scoring Right
Winger.
The Draft
concluded with 5 picks each, and the Nightmares filled their roster to
20. Also important pickups were Tomas Vokoun, Goaltender and Brian
Rolston a Center.
The season kicks
off this Wednesday when the Nightmares host the Melnibone Stormbringers,
which moved from Stalingrad earlier this off season. |
