HISTORY OF OPERATION NIGHT HAWK |
Night Hawk originated on the last weekend of May 1978, at Schoales Dam, Kings County, New Brunswick. It was the brain child of the District Scout Committee of the day. The Committee consisted of Marty Cameron, Otty Forgrave, Ted Robertson, Stan Sample, Ken Coone, John Beckwith and Paul Northurp. Night Hawk was originally orginized to test the area Scouts on what they had learned through the year. Over the years it has expanded to include Scouts, Venturers, Pathfinders and the occasional Cub Troop. They now come not only from the Kings District, but from other Districts in the Province and the State of Maine. Through the years the weekend events have stayed relatively the same with few exceptions. The highlight of the weekend has always been the 10 mile hike that occurs on Saturday night. Over the years the troops have been tested on such things as: First Aid Tree Identification Trail Signs Fire Lightening Knots and Lashings Map and Compass Log Cutting River Crossing Bridge Crossing Animal Identification These are a few of the tests of the weekend. The weekend gives the patricipants the oppertunity to forge new friendships and create ties and memories that will last a life time. Come, join the Twenty-Fifth Annual Night Hawk Weekend, meet new people, forge new friendships and create your own memories. |
