Rarity 2. Morestone Esso series No 9. Mawdsley Horsebox. 1956-58. In 1956 Morestone launched a miniature series in order to rival Lesney's Matchbox series. Morestone's gimmick was to sell the vehicles in boxes shaped like Esso petrol pumps. The range grew to 20 within a year, but was discontinued after two years. Within each box was also a promotional leaflet giving the buyer the opportunity to save tokens on the boxes in exchange for a garage (uptil 1957) and after that a large scale no1 Foden Tanker. Morestone introduced the Budgie range in 1959. This saw the phasing out of most of their model ranges and new models were introduced. Stronger sellers were repackaged as Budgies. Because of the short lifespan and limited range (and their attractive presentation),  Esso boxed models are desirable to collectors.
