The Christmas Story continued
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him." When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. "In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied. Matthew 2:1-5 Herod then sent the Magi to Bethlehem to search for the child so that he could worship him--or so he said. The Magi set out and followed the star until where it stopped, right above where Jesus was. They were overjoyed and went into the house and saw Mary and Jesus. They knelt down and offered the child the things they had--gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Shortly after the Magi left, God came to Joseph in a dream and told him to take Mary and Jesus and escape to Egypt because Herod wanted to kill Jesus. After Joseph woke up from his dream, they immediately left for Egypt. The Magi had been warned in a dream also, and returned home a different way, and when Herod realized that he had been tricked, he ordered that all boys ages two and under should be killed. When Herod died, God appeared in another of Joseph's dreams and told him to go back to Isreal. They left Egypt and settled in Nazareth.
