The Christmas Story
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.  Luke 2:1
So there was going to be a census!  This meant that everyone had to be counted in their own town.  Because Joseph was a decendant of David, he took his fiance, Mary, with him to Bethlehem.
Because there was no room in the inn, they went into a cave where Mary gave birth to Jesus.

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.  She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.  Luke 2:6-7
There were shepherds watching over their sheep this night, and an angel came to them.

But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.  This will be a sign to you:  You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.  Luke 2:10-12
After the angel had said this, the angel went back to heaven and the shepherds went to worship the baby.
