* become familiar with the Internet and learn to use it effectively and critically * develop critical thinking skills as well as sense of cultural sensitivity * create before and after concept maps demonstrating their knowledge of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia * become familiar with the concepts of BIAS and MOTIVE in written documents and be able to identify main areas in which bias appears and why * read and respond critically to 3 different Internet accounts regarding Yugoslavia - students will complete a brief questionnaire for each and will respond critically to all 3 sources * learn strategies to use when writing for a specific AUDIENCE * create a visually appealing and effective travel poster advertising Yugoslavia to tourists - students will present these posters to the class and explain any motives or biases present in their work * reflect on their learning by identifying any biases they previously held about Yugoslavia and comparing these interpretations to their present opinion of the country To view a detailed overview of the unit, please click here |
