| Instructional Objective: - Students will learn to synthesize information to come to an informed and critical conclusion about their personal beliefs and biases about Yugoslavia Behavioural Objective: - Students will be able to present their travel posters to the class and to explain/justify any bias that appears - Students will be able to reflect uopn their knowledge of Yugoslavia before and after the unit and to comment on the personal bias that affected their initial interpretations Curriculum Outcomes: # 1-3, 8 Introduction: - students will present their travel posters and justify their choice of audience and identify any bias present - this process should not take more than half of the class Learning Activity Procedure: - students will retrieve their initial concept maps and participate in the creation of the "after" class concept map - after the concept map is complete, have students reflect on how their opinions about Yugoslavia have changed since the beginning of the unit Some questions to ask - what were some of our preconceptions? biases? - how did they affect our opinions? - how do we feel now? - what are some of the dangers of being biased? Conclusion: - emphasize how bias and motive can affect our interpretations of people, places, and events. It can also hinder our ability to be culturally sensitive and to not judge other cultures by our standards Evaluation: - presentation of posters - participation in discussions and justification of answers/opinions - end of unit, no homework Differentiation Possibilities: - have gifted students share their web stories and comment on their own personal bias and their target audiences - have modified students share their lists of trivia, these students should be able to participate in discussions as well |
