Chapter 40

"He did what?" Gwen asked in disbelief.

"Your dad has been in the process of getting control of my record company.  He said that once he has the control, he will put me in charge and I can  hire the guys for the executive positions," Nick replied.

"Why did he do this?" Gwen  asked.

"Because your dad knows that I love you Gwen.  He wants us to have a chance," Nick answered.

"This is so sudden."

"I know, but we can get married now sweetie, after this nothing will stand in our way."

"I don't know Nick..." Gwen said, her voice a little shaky.

"What do you mean you don't  know?  You told me that the only reason that we couldn't be together was because of my obligation to the guys and the Backstreet Boys.  That is almost gone...what can you not know, you are getting me on your terms."

"It is hard to believe..."

"It is true, your dad can probably explain it better than I can...this can really happen for us, if you let it.  We are getting our shot at this...please tell me you haven't changed your mind."

"What if it isn't what Daddy thinks it is, I mean, what if we get thrown another curve ball?  I don't think I could handle that again Nicky, it is too hard, especially now that we have lost the baby.  This has to be the real thing or I don't think I can go thru with it."

"We will talk to your dad, but you have to make me a promise," Nick said as he looked at her, seeing tears in her eyes, "Look, I know you are scared, baby, I am scared too, but I really do think this is it.  You know your dad loves you and he would never hurt you."

"I know, but I can't help it, we have lost eachother twice now...what do you want me to promise you?"

"I want you to promise me that after we talk to your dad you will go away with me, just the two of us.  I want us to spend some time together and get back on the level that we used to be."

"OK - I will go away with you."

"And, you have to promise me that we will set a date to get married, I can't be hanging by a string on this Gwen, I have to know that you mean it."

"Lets take this one step at a time.  First, we will talk to Daddy...then, while we are away together we will talk about the other stuff...DEAL?"

"I  guess I don't have much choice, you got yourself a deal Miss Latham." Nick said, "When do you want to talk to your dad?"

"How about now?" Gwen said as she stood and started walking towards the door.  Nick watched her and smiled, and then followed after her.
