Play My Song - Chapter 12

"Niiiiick."
God I hate her voice, Nick thought.
Nick grit his teeth yet politely answered, "Yeah baby?"
Jill twisted a long blonde lock between her freshly manicured fingers, "Think I should go on a diet?"
Not this again.
"No Jill, you look beautiful the way you are. You're not fat."
"Really? You're so sweet." She kissed Nick's cheek lightly and exited the master bathroom, heading outside on the balcony to have a cigarette.
Nick slid a t-shirt over his built frame and went down the stairs into his kitchen, desperatly needing something to drink. He opened the fridge to find only bottles of Dasani water.
"Hey Jill?", he called.
"Yeah sugar?"
"Where's the soda?"
"Oh", Jill giggled to herself, "I threw it out. It's fattening."
Nick groaned and rolled his eyes. He regreted the day he asked her to move in with him. Jill was a short girl with long blonde hair and had a usually out-going personality. After she'd moved in, her personality changed from out-going to controlling. She'd taken over his life in more ways than one and he was sick of it. Yet, he stayed with her for only one reason. The sex. God, she was good. But good enough to go through all this? Nick wasn't sure. But for now he decided to put up with it.
Nick grabbed the Dasani, unscrewed the cap, and took a large gulp. Just then, his telephone rang. Before he could answer, he heard Jill pick it up. A few moments later she yelled down that it was for him.
"Hello?" He asked.
"Hey Nick it's Irving Azoff. How are ya?"
Nick smirked, "Could always be better."
"Jill on your nerves again?"
"When isn't she?" Nick sweetly smiled to Jill as she came down the stairs.
Irving laughed then continued, "Well I need you to do me a favor."
"What's up?"
"I've got this cute new girl that I want to sign. I just listened to her demo, she's frickin' awesome. And she's going to be coming to LA next week with a friend."
"So what do you want me to do?" Nick asked.
Irving ran a hand over his bald head, "I need you to be her escort. I need you to show her all the hot spots, bring her to huge star parties, movie premiere's, all that jazz. Show her what it's like to be a celebrity without actually being one yet."
Nick wrinkled his nose, "You know I don't even do the stupid party shit man. Find someone else. Ask Justin."
Irving chuckled, "Justin is going to try and get her into bed. You, I can trust. Come on Nick, you owe me. And I think you'll like her. She's a really nice, down to earth, brunette. Just show her a good time and I'll consider signing Backstreet to my management."
Nick contemplated his options. The bsbs had been searching for new management since the flop of their other firms. They all wanted Azoff Management but Irving wasn't agreeing, though they were all friends. Plus Nick needed a reason to get out and get away from Jill.
"I'll do it. But on one condition."
"Anything."
Nick ran a hand through his hair, "If you sign her, you sign BSB."
Irving let out an exasperated sigh. He sat silent for a few moments then finally answered, "Agreed."
Nick smiled, "Awesome. So when do I leave?"
"Monday. And I'm only buyin' one ticket for you Carter. I don't want Jill tagging along."
"Ditto. See you Monday then."
"See ya."
They both hung up and Jill immediatly ran into the kitchen asking who it was and what he said.
Nick rolled his eyes at her, "Why do you have to know everything?"
"I live here too ya know!"
"I could kick you out as fast as I let you in. Don't tempt me Jill!"
Tears began to well up in her dark brown eyes, "You wouldn't...would you?"
Nick sighed and turned around, looking out his kitchen window at the ocean. How he wished she wasn't around. But he didn't have enough guts to hurt her like that. He was a sucker for tears.
Jill repeated, "Would you?"
Nick hesitantly lied, "No. I wouldn't kick you out."
Jill immediatly smiled, "I didn't think so. So what did the dude say?"
"I'm Leavin' for LA on Monday. Just some business. I should be back by Saturday if not sooner."
"Oh yay, I love LA!"
Nick turned to her, "Not you Jill. Just me. Just business."
She pouted, "Why not me?"
"It's just business!"
Jill stepped back, "Temper temper baby. Don't get upset."
Nick continued to be snippy, "Maybe you could find a job while I'm gone. Pay off your college loans?"
Jill giggled, "Yeah right Nick. Why should I get a job when I have a millionare boyfriend like you?"
Nick grumbled, grabbed the keys to his Mercedes and walked out the front door. He wasn't sure where he was going but he just needed to cool off. To get away from
her.
