~~~~Two Lives, One Heart~~~~
Chapter Nineteen
When Elisha awoke she thought she could smell toast burning. She stretched and memories of the night before with Nick brought a smile to her lips. At that same moment Nick pushed the bedroom door open and hollered. "C'mon beautiful, wake up! Your breakfast is getting cold!"
She looked at him dubiously. "You cooked breakfast?"
He grabbed her hand and pulled her out of bed. "I most certainly did, and I can't wait for you to sample it, c'mon!"
She couldn't believe all the food he had prepared for just the two of them. "Where did you get all this stuff? My cupboards aren't that well stocked!"
Nick looked sheepish. "Well, when I drove here last night I saw a 24 hour grocery, so I went this morning and picked some things up." he grinned apologetically. "What can I say, I like to eat!"
They dug into breakfast and compared their schedules for the day. "So, can you come to the concert tonight?" Nick asked, hopefully.
"I'd be honored to accompany you, handsome sir." she said playfully, bowing over the table and getting syrup in her hair.
Nick giggled and got a damp cloth. As he was rubbing the cloth through her hair, he said "You know Mandy will be there, right?"
Elisha nodded and gave a yelp when doing so pulled her hair. "I won't cause any trouble, I'll be a good girl!" she promised.
Nick quickly looked behind her back. "Hey! Get those fingers uncrossed lady!"
"What?" she asked innocently.
"No, really. I'm afraid of what Mandy might try to pull, please behave!"
Nick drove them back to the hotel and enlisted Elisha's help in rounding up the rest of Mandys things.
"Holy cats, Nick! You do know there are closets and dressers provided in hotels, right?" She was picking up piles of his clothes from the floor and trying to sort them on the bed. "There's a laundry too." she grimaced, holding a particularly pungent shirt as far away as she could.
"Hey, that's my lucky basketball jersey!" he exclaimed, grabbing it away from her and holding it lovingly. "Where did you find it?"
Elisha moved to the bathroom and started dropping bottles of shampoo, perfume and nail polish into a bag that Nick had provided.
"Wait a minute!" Nick yelled, pulling a bottle from the bag. "That's my shampoo, there's no way she's having that!"
Elisha looked at him skeptically. "You use 'Outrageous' on your hair?" "Yeah, it keeps it nice and soft." he replied somewhat defensively.
Elisha just rolled her eyes. "I think we have everything now. Do you see anything else?"
Nick checked the dresser and closets. "Nope, that's it. She might have some things on the bus, but I'll worry about that tomorrow."
He zipped up the bag and gave it to his guard to take to Mandy. He didn't know where her new room was and didn't care to know. Nick ran back into the room and jumped on the bed, kicking the piles of clothes back onto the floor. He put his arms out to Elisha.
"Come here, baby."
Elisha put her hands on her hips. "I just cleaned those off the floor, buster."
"I'll clean up after, I promise." Nick's eyes were big, round and pleading - Bambi eyes.
Elisha sighed, lay down beside him and tweaked his nose. "Do you practice those faces in the mirror? They're very effective, you know!"
He grinned. "I know it!" They lay together, wrapped in each others arms, content just talking and cuddling.
A short while later, the phone interrupted them. Nick picked it up and cursed when there was no answer.
"Do you think it was her?"
"Probably, but it could have been a fan." Nick shrugged. "Sometimes they get up enough courage to call, but not actually talk."
Elisha looked at her watch. "Well, as much as I hate to leave, I need to run some errands before the show."
Nick pouted comically.
"Don't you want me to be gorgeous for tonight?" she tugged at his chin.
Nick held her hands to his chest. "You are gorgeous."
"Well," she kissed his lips tenderly. "Just think how much more gorgeous I'll be when I've washed the maple syrup out of my hair and have some make-up on. You've never seen me all fancied up."
They kissed once more and she promised to return in a couple of hours.
