~~~~Two Lives, One Heart~~~~
Chapter Seventeen
Nick switched on the light to make sure he was seeing what he thought he saw.
"Mandy?" he yelled. "What the hell are you doing?"
Mandy and the man she was sitting atop of both jumped at the sound of Nick's voice.
"Oh Nicky, baby, I can explain." she pleaded.
"There's nothing to explain, get the hell out of my room!"
The man in the bed was hurriedly dressing. Nick glanced over and recognized him as one of the limo drivers.
"You're fired! Get out of my sight before I have your license taken away!"
Mandy clung to Nick. "Nicky, I'm so sorry, I never meant for..."
Nick looked down at her, scornfully. "What Mandy? You never meant for what? For stupid Nicky to know that you were screwing around on him?" he shouted.
She tried to hush him, but Nick pushed her aside and grabbed one of her suitcases out of the closet.
"I always thought you were messing around." he said, evenly, tossing things into the bag. "But to have it thrown in my face like this..." He looked at her standing across from him, bare arms covering her chest.
"Goddam it, get dressed and get out! I want you out!" he yelled.
"Nicky, please. Think about this, where am I gonna go?" she begged.
Nick shoved some clothes into her arms and grabbed her shoulders.
"I don't give a damn! It's over. I'm sick of being made the fool and the whipping boy. Get out of my sight!" He took a deep breath. "And I don't want to hear you call me Nicky ever again."
Nick called management and informed them that Mandy needed a new room.
"But she's with you?"
"No, she's not." Nick replied. "She'll be ready shortly, send someone to take her to her new room."
Mandy was alternately crying and cursing. "Nick, you can't do this to me. We're promised to each other remember?"
She held up her left hand. Nick couldn't believe she was wearing the ring on her ring finger. Just like a wedding band, for God sakes. Nick pulled the ring off and put it in his pocket.
"Not anymore Mandy."
Mandy was stunned. "Goddam it Nick, you're not going to get away with this! It's that dancer, isn't it? What did she do to make you leave me?"
Nick sighed tiredly, "Just go away, Mandy."
There was a knock at the door and Nick went to open it. "Oh, hi Brian. I was expecting someone else."
Brian looked around at the flurry of Mandy's stuff.
"What's going on?"
"She's gone." Nick said simply. "We just broke up for good."
Brian hid a small smile. "Really? Are you okay, man?"
"Yeah, I'm alright. This has been a long time coming."
Mandy was still tossing things into her suitcase. Another knock sounded. This time it was security to escort Mandy.
"Is she ready?"
Nick snapped her suitcase shut despite her protests and handed it to the guard.
"She's ready."
Mandy glared at him. "I don't have everything, you bastard!"
"I'll send the rest to you in the morning."
Mandy stamped her foot in frustration. "This isn't over Nick, I won't let it be!" she screamed and slapped his face before she turned on her heel.
Brian held the door for her and waved his fingers in her face. "Bye Willa!"
"OOOH!" she screamed and slammed the door behind her.
