Chapter 18
Mandy opened the door and stared into the muzzle of a gun. She attempted
to shut the door, but Elisha moved quicker and got herself in the motel
room. Mandy backed up against the wall, Elisha was still pointing the
gun at her. "What do you want?" Elisha took slow steps towards her.
"What do I want? I should be asking you that question. What are you doing
in Kentucky, Mandy?" Elisha stood before her and poked the gun into her
chest. "I, I, I'm visiting friends." Mandy stammered. "Do you think I'm
some kind of idiot?" Elisha asked incredulously. The two women stared at
each other. They were about the same size but Elisha held the advantage
with a dancers strength. She pushed Mandy over to the table and sat her
down. She sat across from her with the gun still aimed at Mandy. "Why
can't you leave my family alone?" "Nick loves me!" Mandy burst out.
"I'm not going to stop until he's with me again!" Elisha laughed shortly.
"Nick and I have been together for almost 9 years. We have four beautiful
children together. The only time he mentions you is when you have been
trying to hurt us!" "NICK LOVES ME, I KNOW HE DOES!" Mandy screamed
defiantely. "You hypnotized him into believing you are me or something,
it's me he loves and wants!" She stood and knocked the gun out of Elisha's
hand and snatched it up into her own hand. "Take me to him!" Mandy's hand
was shaking wildly, Elisha stood carefully, eyes focused on the gun. "Give
me the gun, Mandy. It's not loaded, I only brought it to scare you."
Mandy giggled. "Oh it's loaded, I can tell! You're just too gutless to
shoot me! Well, I won't have that problem!" She moved her finger to the
trigger, Elisha caught the slight movement and pounced on her. The two
women wrestled on the floor for control of the weapon. A shot rang out
and Elisha grabbed her upper left arm. Warm blood oozed through her
fingers. Mandy grabbed Elisha's right arm at the elbow and pulled her up.
"Take me to him, now!" she demanded. She shoved the gun into Elisha's
back and pushed her towards the door.
Elisha's mind raced. There was no way she was taking this madwoman back to the house. Mandy bent her head towards Elisha's ear. "You know, I can't wait to see those beautiful twins again." Something in Elisha snapped then. She placed her hands on either side of the door frame and kicked back with her right leg. She caught Mandy square in the chest and knocked the wind out of her. As she fell, she lost her grip on the gun and it clattered to the ground. Elisha kicked Mandy's hand out of the way and grabbed it, pointing it down at Mandy once again. "You are not going anywhere near my children ever again!" She kicked her in the back. "Get up, we're going for a ride." After a short drive, they entered the farmhouse laneway. Elisha dimmed the vans lights and scanned the windows. The last thing she needed was for Nick to see her come home. She could see him in the big rocking chair with Rebecca and Brian on his lap, reading. She continued to drive down the lane to one of the out buildings near the outskirts of the farm. She yanked Mandy out of the van and pulled her roughly into the building. "Grab that rope." Elisha gestured to a bundle in the corner. Mandy hesitated and Elisha shoved her towards it. "Get the rope I said!" Mandy picked up the dusty coil of rope and handed it to Elisha. She quickly secured Mandy to a support post, tying the rope tightly around her ankles and wrists. As an afterthought, she picked up some additional rope and tied her waist, knees and upper chest. "There we go. That should hold you for awhile. But I don't think I can trust you to be quiet, can I?" Elisha looked around the barn for something she could use as a gag. She found a pile of rags on a table and shook one out. Tying it around Mandy's mouth, she laughed as she surveyed her handiwork. "There you go Mandy. If you look out the window in the morning you might see Nick, with me and our children. And you'll see that he is happy." Elisha went to leave the barn, she turned back to Mandy at the last minute. "I'll bring you some food in the morning. I'm not sure when though, Nick can't know that you are here, and neither can the children. I'll get away when I can." As she closed the door to the barn, she felt a pain in her arm. She glanced down at her bloodsoaked sleeve. "Damn!" How could she sneak past Nick and the kids and fix her arm up? |
