~~~~Just To See Her~~~~
Chapter 3
"Gentlemen?"
Howie awoke with a start at the sound of the voice echoing in the small room. "Yes?" Brian sat up, rubbing his eyes. He nudged Kevin in the shoulder to wake him up. "Any news?" Brian asked the police officer. "I'm afraid not. We are about to begin the air search though, the skies have cleared considerably." "Should we wait here for news?" asked AJ, sipping a coffee as he walked into the room. "That would be for the best, yes, I just wanted to let you know that we are starting the search." Kevin stood and stretched his arms over his head. "I'd like to accompany one of the pilots in the search, if I may." "Sir, we don't know what condition your friend may be in..." "Exactly." Kevin exclaimed. "If he is alive out there he would feel better having someone with him that he knows." "Sir, I don't know." Kevins eyes pleaded with the officer. "Please sir, he's like a brother to me and I'm very worried about him. I can't just sit here and wait for news." The officer scanned the faces of the others. "Would any of you like to come as well?" Howie spoke for all of them. "As much as we would like to, we'll wait here for Nicks family. I think all of us will be needed to comfort them when they arrive." "Thanks guys, I knew you would understand." Kevin hugged Brian and followed the officer out the door.
The morning sun shone down and warmed the sleeping pilot on the ground. "Ahhh!" he shouted, when he moved his arm to stretch. "Almost forgot the thing was broken." He sat up and rubbed his legs with his good arm before standing. "I hope you survived the night, boy." he called out. "I'm gonna look for the first aid kit again, something in there might help you." He set off through the trees, picking up a long branch to help him poke through the forest debris.
Nick stirred in the cockpit again. Why did everything hurt so much? Why couldn't he move? Everything was dark and everything hurt. He felt himself fading again and struggled to stay awake this time. He thought he heard someone talking again. He didn't know, everything was going fuzzy again. "Please don't let me die." he whispered, before sinking into the darkness again.
Kevin sat in the co-pilots seat of the plane and scanned the horizon for signs of Nicks plane. He felt so bad about this. It had been his idea to come to the island to record and it had been him that had badgered Nick into coming back to record the backing tracks. He felt so guilty. It had to be him to help find him, no matter what shape he was in. Kevin sighed as he looked out of the plane. Nick was the younger brother he had never known. Kevin felt he had practically helped raise him, Nick had been so young when he joined the group. They loved to tease each other and loved to see how many nerves they could step on before the other snapped. But they were brothers and would go to the ends of the earth for each other. That being the main reason that Nick had agreed to return to the island, because Kevin had asked him too. "Please be okay, little bro." Kevin whispered and returned to scanning the ground below.
"Okay buddy!" the pilot crowed. "I found the first aid kit, let's see if I can patch up your cuts." He climbed up the nose of the plane and into the cockpit. The brightness of the day helped him see the interior a bit better. A large chunk of the roof was hanging down and he manouvered it out of the way with the use of the branch and his good arm. He crouched down and stared at the huddled body on the floor of the plane. Blood was everywhere and he couldn't make out any of the boys facial features. He shook his head sadly. If he hadn't known the young man was blond before he wouldn't have known it now, there was so much blood, the strands of his hair were caked together and covered with it. He sat down beside him and felt for his pulse again. Still weak but still there, that was a good sign, he was a fighter. The pilot was afraid to move him, it was difficult to make out all his injuries and something could have been damaged internally. "I'm sorry buddy. I don't think I can do anything for you, I don't want to hurt you any worse." he sighed and rubbed the young mans arm again. "But I'm here for you, help should be coming soon. If you can hear me, keep that thought in your head, help is on the way. You've made it this long, don't give up now. You hear me boy? Don't give up!"
