~~~~Just To See Her~~~~
Chapter 1
Nick snapped his seatbelt together and sat back, closing his eyes. He sat up and glanced out the window, quickly pulling the shade closed as he saw the engines start up. He hated flying as a rule, and he didn't think he was going to survive flying in this rickety rust bucket. "Why did I agree to meet the guys on that stupid island? They could have waited and done my parts somewhere that didn't involve flying!"
The Backstreet Boys were wrapping up their latest album and the last backing tracks were being recorded on a remote island far away from the press and fans. Nick Carter was their youngest member and had been coerced into flying to the island as well. Nick had protested - a lot - he just wanted to rest and relax at home, playing his video games, swimming, and forgetting he was a member of one of the biggest groups in the world. But the others convinced him it was for the best, that it was easier to record without all the outside pressures. So here he was, buckled into a flying death trap and scared to death with no one to comfort him. There were no other passengers making the trip this time, the pilot had explained. It was just Nick and the pilot. The pilot looked to be about his dads age and was friendly enough, but Nick stayed fairly quiet.
"Hey buddy, want to come up in the cockpit?" the pilots voice called out to him. "There are some interesting weather patterns not too far from us, really cool to watch!"
"Uh, no thanks!" Nick yelled out. "I'll just stay here! Buckled in and as safe as I can get up here." he said a bit more quietly.
"To each his own." the pilot yelled back.
Nick slid down in his seat and pulled his Gameboy out of his back pack. "This should help keep my mind off things." he smiled.
He lost himself in the game and missed the pilot calling out to him again.
"Hey buddy!"
Nick looked up and realized it was the pilot talking to him. "Yeah?"
"Are you tied in back there? That storm is closer to us than I thought! Hang on!"
At that the plane lurched down, causing Nick to grab his stomach.
"I'm so glad I ate before I got to the airport!" he moaned. "What's going on out there?" Nick yelled up to him.
"If you want to talk to me, haul ass up here boy! I can't hear you!"
Nick thought about it and moved out of his seat. The plane was bouncing up and down and he had to grab the seats tightly as he made way up to the cockpit. He settled into the seat beside the pilot and clamped the seatbelt shut. A bolt of lightning pierced the air right in front of the plane. The thunder rumbled so loudly that Nick had to clap his hands to his ears.
"Oh my God!"
The pilot struggled with the controls. "We're gonna have to try to land!"
Nick stared at him. "What do you mean TRY to land?"
"It's either try or crash outright!"
"Okay, give it a try!" Nick encouraged.
The pilot wrestled with the controls some more and pointed to a small strip of land. "That's what we're aiming for, buddy. Hang on to your hat!"
The plane dipped down and Nick grabbed whatever he could hold on to. The constant bouncing had brought him to the brink of nausea and he couldn't hold off any longer. He bent his head and threw up undiscreetly on the floor of the plane. "Sorry!" he hollered.
"I think a little stink will be the least of our worries, boy!" the pilot glanced at Nicks ashen face. "We're going down, the engine died."
Nick bent his body over and tucked his head between his knees. If he knew anything, it was the safety procedures on a plane. He could feel the plane dipping more and more and his ears were popping from the fast descent to the ground. Nick prayed to God, he prayed for his safety and the wellbeing of everyone he knew in his life. He asked forgiveness for anything he may have done that he would need to be forgiven for. A snapping, cracking sound heralded their meeting with the earth once again. Nicks body snapped forward and his head connected with something sharp and very hard. He fought for consciousness. The snapping sound got louder and louder and the plane seemed to fall apart around him. Nick felt stabbing pains in nearly every region of his body. Something struck him in the head again and he succumbed to the blissfull darkness.
