He Had to Die

~~~~~Chapter 5~~~~
"Good morning officers."
Kevin entered the conference room with a determined look on his face. "I want this guy caught, I don't care who the hell he is or why he did it, I want him gone!" He addressed the room full of officials forcefully. "I mean this. No one has left the hotel, you should be able to find him."
"Sir, we can understand your concern and we should be able to provide you with more information before the end of the day." The detective gestured to a chair and encouraged Kevin to take a seat. "We would like to ask you some questions first though."
"Shoot." Kevin folded his arms on the table top and waited.
"Why did you go to Mr. Carter's room last night?"
"I didn't go in actually. We had something scheduled right when we got back to the hotel and I was bowing out. I've been fighting the flu and I was really tired, Nick was the only one I knew was back at that time so I went to tell him that I was going to bed. They ended up canceling it anyway. Which is too bad, because maybe Nick would still be alive if he had been there." Kevin grew quiet at the thought.
"Was he in a good mood, upbeat, or did he seem down?"
"He seemed in a good mood. He was ticked about having to get dressed up for the meet and greet, but other than that he was happy, smiling. He was telling me about how he teased Howie in the lobby."
"But you said you and Mr. Carter were the first ones upstairs?"
"We were, Howie was probably detained. I saw him arriving as I left Nick's room."
"Did he say anything about the others coming to visit him? About Brent?"
"No, because at that time he thought the meet and greet was still on. We were the first two to our rooms so no one had a chance to get there first."
"Do you have any idea who might have done this to him?"
"No idea, it's hard to think that it might be one of our own. We are all so close. I really hope you are wrong about that."
"We wish we were, but all signs are pointing that way, Mr. Richardson. I'm sorry."
"You have evidence?" Kevin challenged.
"We have some, we have some ideas and thoughts."
"Sir!" An officer entered the room waving a sheaf of paper. "We have the results of the tests you were looking for!"
Kevin stood up, placed his hands flat on the table and stared at the detective. "Catch him." He turned on his heel and walked quickly out the door.
