For Better or Worse

~~~~Prologue~~~~
He couldn't help himself. He needed to make sure she was alright. Her boyfriend was being such an asshole to her lately and he was ready to fight for her if he had to. She needed someone on her side. No one deserved the kind of treatment he had been throwing at her. He peered into the crack of the slightly open door.
"You were awesome tonight, sweetheart!"
She was glowing, smiling at her boyfriend and trying to hug him. She was so beautiful, his heart sunk, knowing she loved one of his best friends and not him.
"I sucked tonight." the man said, flatly, pushing her away from him.
"No you didn't." she protested.
"I said I sucked!" She ducked as he flung a glass at her. It bounced off the wall behind her and shattered on the floor.
She brushed the shards of broken glass from her shoulders and sat quietly on the sofa. She tried to keep the tears from running down her face but she coudn't help it.
"Don't get comfortable. We're getting the hell out of here as soon as they give the word. What the hell is taking so long?" he yelled a touch louder.
He wanted to dry her eyes. Tell her to leave the jerk. He clenched his fists and continued to watch the scene unfold.
"I wish we had time for you to give me a blow job. I could really use one right now." He grinned wickedly at her.
She smiled weakly. "Whatever you want."
"Hey Kevin!" The man outside the door turned around quickly as someone slapped him on the back. "We're here for awhile longer, too many fans outside. Let Nick know will you, I have to find AJ to tell him."
Kevin sighed and knocked on the door. "Who is it?" Her voice. Bastard couldn't even open his own door. "It's Kevin, just wanted to let Nick know that we have to stay put a bit longer, okay?" One of her hazel eyes appeared at the small opening at the door jamb.
"Thank you Kevin. He's getting a drink right now. I'll let him know." She smiled at him.
"How are you, you look tired?"
"Oh, I'm fine Kevin, thanks for asking."
He could hear Nick tossing things around in the dressing room, in frustration or anger, it was hard to tell.
"Jess, who the hell are you talking to?" Nick pulled the door open. "Oh, hi Kev. What's up?"
Kevin repeated the message. "I'll let you go now, someone will let you know when we're leaving."
"Thanks man." Nick slammed the door shut, almost in Kevin's face. "Alright Jess, time to get to work! Get on your knees. You know what I want!"
Kevin gazed at the door, willing her to sense his wanting to help her, his need for her to be safe in his arms and away from Nick once and for all.
