For Better Or Worse

~~~~Chapter Seven~~~~
Jessica recovered from her cold after a few days and resumed attending the concerts with Nick. Or rather tagging along after Nick had been taken into the building by his guards. He still didn't want to be seen in person with her. Kevin kept a close watch on Nick, but with Jessica along he was the model of a perfect boyfriend. Almost too perfect. Kevin knew Nick saw him watching him. Every now and then he would wrap his arm around Jessica and flash Kevin a brilliant smile. As if to say, 'Look we're happy, she's happy, leave us alone.'.
"How many men have you been with before me?" Nick tickled her toes as he asked the question.
"Honestly?" Jessica giggled and squirmed under him from his touch.
"Yes, honestly." He licked her ankle and slowly traced a wet path to her knee. Jessica gasped in reaction.
"Just you."
Nick stopped, his tongue still hanging out for a brief moment, and stared up at her. "I said honestly."
"I am being honest Nick, you were my first one. I was a virgin before I met you."
"No way." Nick scoffed.
"Way." Jessica said solemnly. "I wouldn't lie about that to you. I love you."
Nick was quiet and then a smile slowly spread across his face. "Wow." He planted a kiss on her thigh and sat up beside her.
"How about you?" Jessica turned her head to look into his blue eyes. "Tons of girls I bet, right?" She nervously twisted the sheets in her fingers. Wanting to hear, but not wanting to at the same time.
"Well." Nick coughed slightly. "There's only been one serious girl, aside from you."
"I'm serious?" she asked with a smile.
"Yeah, I think so." Nick blushed and turned away from her.
"How serious was she?" Jessica put her arm around his shoulder and hugged him gently.
"I don't want to talk about Heather." Nick said sullenly.
"Maybe if you talked about her you would get it out of your system." she suggested helpfully. "Why did you two break up?"
"I said I don't want to talk about her!" Nick barked at Jessica. He pulled a shirt and a pair of jeans on and stormed out of the door before she could say another word.
Nick returned to the hotel room just in time to grab a bag and head downstairs to get ready for the show.
"Are you coming?" he asked Jessica, with a frown.
"Of course." She placed her book face down on the table and went to join him.
"Don't touch me. There's a ton of fans downstairs."
"But Nick, they all know that I'm with you now. It's all over the net." She touched the small of his back.
"Damn it all!" Nick grabbed her arm and pushed it away. "I said don't touch me! Just leave me the hell alone!" Jessica jumped back as if she had been burned.
"What happened while you were out, Nick?"
"Nothing. Are you coming or not?" He put his hands to his hips and waited by the open door. "If you are, you're going with Laurie, not me. Got it?" Jessica nodded and followed him out the door. He met up with AJ down the hall and greeted him with a huge hug.
"Nice." Jessica thought to herself. "Won't let me hug him, but he'll hug AJ." She sat down in a chair and waited for Laurie to finish getting ready.
"Coming with me, darling?" Laurie asked, as she swept mascara over her lashes.
"Guess so." Jessica sadly watched Nick leave with AJ, hoping he just forgot to say goodbye.
Halfway through the concert a latecomer pushed her way into the VIP area, waving at various members of the crew as she made her way towards Jessica and Leighanne. Jessica didn't recognize her at all, but whoever she was seemed to know everyone.
"Who's that?" she poked Leighanne in the ribs to get her attention. Leigh looked over and her mouth dropped open in surprise.
"That's Heather, Nick's ex. Who gave her a pass?"
Jessica looked up at Nick to see if he had noticed Heather. He missed a step and stumbled just as she looked up. His eyes were wide with surprise and Kevin had to pull him away from the edge of the stage. Heather laughed and turned to Leigh and Jessica.
"Hello Leighanne."
"Hello bitch." Leighanne replied under her breath.
"And who's this? Nick's new plaything? I recognize everyone else."
"Get the hell out of here Heather. Who invited you here?"
Heather raised her eyebrow and smirked. "Why, Nick did honey. Told me he was lonely and no one gives him a blowjob like me. Well no female, anyway."
"Nick would never call you, not after what you did to him."
Jessica could only watch the two of them exchange heated words. She was dying to know what had happened between Nick and Heather. What did she mean by no female could do Nick like her?
"Maybe if you came home and found your fiancee deep throating one of his best friends, you would have done the same thing." Heather challenged.
Jessica felt her breath leave her. Nick with..who? One of the guys? No, she must have meant a girl. Had to have meant a girl. Nick cheated on Heather with some another girl.
"Is she alright?" Heather jabbed her finger at Jessica and smirked. "I think she's about to pass out."
Jessica awoke on a cot in a small room somewhere in the arena.
"Oh Jess honey, you scared me!" Leighanne breathed in relief. "You just wilted right to the ground!"
"I'm okay, just got too hot I guess." Jessica tried to sit up and Leighanne pushed her back down.
"Just stay here for a minute, Jess." Leighanne placed her hand on Jessica's arm. "I know what Heather said bothered you and I want to tell you what happened with those two."
Jessica shivered slightly. "Is what she said true?"
"I don't think so hun, I've never heard of it before. I think she was just trying to scare you."
"So what happened?" Jessica whispered.
Leighanne took a deep breath and settled back in her chair. "Nick met Heather at some hotel bar about 2 years ago. He was a little wasted, but that didn't stop him. He thought she was beautiful and insisted that she would be his girlfriend before the night was out. Well, Heather was smitten and she started to tour with him."
"Like me." Jessica said quietly.
"Well, yes, kind of." Leighanne admitted. "He was so in love with her. If she asked him to do something, he did it, if she didn't like his clothes, he changed them, if she said jump, he asked how high."
"Was she in love with him?" Jessica bit her lower lip and stared at the floor.
"I'm getting there sweetie." The older woman tapped Jessica's arm lightly. "About a year ago, he told everyone that they were engaged. We were all shocked. Heather is nothing like you, you're so good to him. Heather used him and we thought Nick would see through her eventually. But he didn't and they started plans for the wedding. Now, none of us liked her, but we love Nick, so we were nice to her and helped in anyway we could."
Jessica took a deep breath. "They were going to be married?"
Leighanne nodded and continued. "They were going to get married on the beach out by Nick's old house, their house at the time. Nick was so ready. He looked so handsome. All of us were there waiting, his family, a few friends, the minister. Nick kept going to the window and looking for her car."
"She didn't!" Jessica exclaimed in disbelief.
"She did." Leighanne shook her head sadly. "One of us girls finally went into her room and it was cleaned out. All the jewelry, clothes, some of Nick's things, everything he ever bought her - gone."
Jessica felt a tear running down her cheek. "How horrible."
"She left a note, said something like 'Thanks for the ring and the car. See ya!'. Nick was devastated. He ran down to the beach and sat in the sand, letting the water wash over his legs." Leighanne turned at the sound of the door opening.
"Just came to see how the new beard is." Heather said cheerfully.
Leighanne stared hatefully at the newcomer. "Get out Heather! Get out right now!"
Jessica stood on shaky legs and faced Heather. "How could you have done that do him? He loved you."
Heather placed her hands on her hips. "Had to tell her, didn't you Miss Georgia Peach?" She sneered at Leighanne and turned to Jessica. "I'll tell you why. He loved someone more than me. Someone that wasn't going to go away. And you can ask him if you don't believe me!"
Jessica looked to Leighanne and back to Heather.
"Who?"
Heather could have knocked both of them over with a feather after she uttered her last word.
"AJ."
