Helen was somewhat relieved by Duncan's response to the revelation of her past. Worst case scenerario for her was actually not that he would have challenged her himself had Methos failed or chosen not to do it. She had been afraid, more than anything else, that Duncan would want nothing to do with her ever again, and he had come to mean far to much to her for her to be able to live with that.
Things might never be the same because of what she had done, but at least a certain amount of healing and reconciliation had taken place among these two very good friends. If only she could have the same luck with Methos. But the wounds were just too deep. Forgiveness was possible, but he surely  would never be able to love her the same way again.
Helen's mind immediately turned from these things of the past, things which were beyond her ability to change or control, to the present moment, when she sensed the presense of another immortal.
It was two o'clock in the morning and she wasn't expecting anyone, so she grabbed her sword. She would greet her visitor, ready for anything that might ensue.
Suddenly, there came a knock on the door and a familiar voice. "Helen, it's, me, open the door."
She unlocked it, to find Methos standing there. "This isn't a business call, Helen." He said. "Can I come in, if you don't mind, I have to talk to you."
"Sure, come on in, let me put this away. In the meantime," She said as he made his way over to the refrigerator without asking, "feel free to take anything but the 10,000 dollar bottle of wine I just had imported from Italy. Unless you were planning to fight me for it."
He smiled warmly, but then became serious again. "Helen, I am afraid I have some bad news. Caterine is dead."
      "Who?" She asked immediately.
"I don't know Helen." He said. "Macleod was the one who found her. He thought you'd want to know.
"Why not tell me himself?" She asked. "Certainly this has to be a bit unnerving for you."
"Because I was hoping to talk to you." He said. "About us."
"I kinda figured I had destroyed whatever chance we had of finding our way back together." Helen  said.
