| The Awakening | ||||||||
| Jenna Renoir was awakened by a dream, the same kind of vivid nightmare which had haunted her nights since she was a child. The dream was not a lucid one, but was filled with bits and pieces of events which horrified her. Tonight she not only saw death, but smelled its stench and felt its gentle arms caresses her as a mother caresses her child, refusing to release her once it had her in its iron grip. She was obviously not going to be able to sleep, so she got out of bed, clad only in her silk night gown. She was standing by the patio door when something drew her outside, something she could neither explain nor ignore. She went outside and headed towards the beach. One of the perks of being rich was having seashore property, something that she took advantage of quite readily, thinking nothing of leaving her apartment at two in the morning. It was warm and still relatively dark outside, she listened quietly as the waves crashed against the rocky shore, and suddenly, she knew she was not alone. A tall dark haired man stod behind her. He had the eyes of an eagle, eyes which seemed to penetrate to her very core. "Hello Jenna." He said as he drew near. Suddenly, images of death pervaded her mind as they had in sleep, and she knew this man for what he was. "Get away from me!" She cried, as she tried in vain to get back to the house. He ran after her, faster than any human being was capable of running. But then again, this man was not human. Seconds later this man had taken Jenna into his arms and driven his razor sharp talons into her delicate flesh. She spoke in that moment, after finding the voice which she had somehow lost in the midst of all the terror. "I know you for what you are." "And what am I Jenna?" He asked forcefully, although he could already read her thoughts and knew quite well that she knew he was a vampire. "Your a monster that kills," She said accusatively. "If I am, as you say, a monster that kills, then would it not be logical for me to kill now." He said. "No!" She said, tears running down her face. "Your different Jenna.You have always been different. That's why I choose you." It suddenly became abundantly clear to Jenna that he intended on making her one of them, a fate which was far worse than death. |
