The “Topped Off” cards in Wasteland have found a best friend in Conquest’s five Strongholds. I am very excited about this interaction because it will really beg players to try and break the topped off cards. It will also tempt players to run more Strongholds in a deck, even though they are not traditional mana sources, and constitute card disadvantage. Will Spikes play Strongholds if they make it easier to play Solar Cycle? In addition to topped off cards, there are a number of cards in Wastelands that get better with Strongholds because of their off color abilities. Punish Dependency will be much more likely to generate life loss and Tidal Guardian will be able to stack decks all day long. Enlightened Stonerune is a card waiting to be abused and there are cards in Conquest that will remove the symmetry of its bounce effect, give it vigilance and even give you a final use out of it when it gets destroyed. Starscryer will be as easy to play as possible once you play a certain Rare mountain card in the set.
