Conquest Theme Deck

“What Phase is it?” will take on a whole new meaning when you play the “Temporary Permanence” deck. Use phasing to control the tempo of the game and soon you can make your move to win the game.

Start by keeping up as much pressure as you can with Phantasmal Eel and Phantasmal Warrior, forcing your opponent to concentrate his or her actions on removing your cheap threats.  Keep your counterspells in your hand if you can, because you’re going to need them later when you plan on punching through your opponent’s defenses for the win. Don’t be too worried about losing creatures, they’re only meant to keep your opponent on the defense.  A timely Thought Restrictor can provide a reusable resource to deny your opponents best threats, especially when used with Dunewathcer and Waterpout Observatory.

As the game progresses you should have more permanents phasing in and out of play. If you have any Lost Archipelagos in play, you’ll be producing a lot of mana as a result. Use this mana to sift through your deck or to play multiple spells all at once. You should have plenty of mana available for a counterspell if you need it.

When you’re ready, you can win by either playing Shimmering Accord and Wield the Singularity to bounce most of your opponent’s cards back to hand, or take a shot at removing all the cards in your opponent’s library from the game with Emapthy’s Ignorance and Phantasmal Eel, or return your phased out horde to play for one massive attack by using Drop the Veil.

The deck’s biggest weakness is coming up against any deck full of tiny creatures that can swarm you. Both Unmake and Unravel should help you survive long enough to gain control. Net Caster can also help provide a solid defense.

After playing the deck for a while, you may want to build a more cautious deck, with more control. If so, add Veil of Distance from Wastelands to get an added layer of security for your early game play. If you want to go more aggressive, Crystal Asp and Stellar Echo may suit your needs, along with the brutal Limitless One. And of course, Rom, Forsaken Harbor will bring you from the cusp of defeat to victory time and time again.
