Day Two: August 29, 2000
This is a little swinging-type bridge just southeast of Brighton, early the next morning. The bridge swings to let boats pass through the Murray canal. This is about an hour into the day's ride, and luckily once I got going, I loosened up and started to feel surprisingly comfortable. Day two was the shortest ride of the trip, about 150 km or so, most of it through flat, ideal cycling territory.
Well, that was the start of Prince Edward county, and here's the end of it! Some of the prettiest countryside in Ontario, and i didn't take any pictures as I passed through it! I was just too lazy. Stopping, finding my camera, snapping a shot, then putting the camera back, always seemed to be too long a process. That's just the mentality I had with so many kilometres lying ahead of me! If I do this again, though, I really must take more pictures. But I digress. Here is the Glenora ferry, which goes across a small stretch of water from a peninsula just east of picton, to another peninsula on the mainland. 60 km or so west of Kingston, if I recall correctly.
This is a view looking backwards at the dock just after the ferry had left. Luckliy I never actually had to climb that hill on the left, there. For a long time I was looking at it with a cautious eye, though! Normally I enjoy the challenge of hills, but this trip was all about using energy wisely. At least it was supposed to be.
Here's a little piece of Canadiana I found along the Loyalist Parkway, somewhere between Sandhurst and Bath, as I recall. I suppose the rest speaks for itself!
This sign would prove to be misleading. Apparently, it is really only the border of the "GKA". It would be over an hour before I got to the Heart of town. An hour I'd do just about anything to have back!
This is the Church of the Good Thief, in Kingston. I thought it was pretty. Not much in Kingston fits that description, so... ;)
Yes, folks, it's the Kingston Penitentiary. Home to some of Canada's biggest celebrities!
Ewww, Queen's. Hey, this is the beginning of my career as a University Student, so it's about time I start making fun of the other schools! Thanks to Putz for the perceptive John Deacon reference.
Onto Day 3!
