Hello
Everyone! Congratulations to Dennis for coming up with this
site and allowing us to connect again after so many years!
My story is this:
Graduated from Vassar College in '63 (A.B.) and Columbia University
in 1965 (M.A.).
Married Rob Nelsen (NHS'59) in 1966 and moved to Virginia. Two sons,
John (now 30) and Charlie (now 28). Relocated to Massachusetts in 1968.
Divorced in 1975. Grandchild, Emma, now 19 months old, expects a sib in
Spring.
Foolishly believed I could get a job "in math" without working with
computers, but I soon found out it wasn't really selling out to work with
machines that did the heavy lifting for you. Worked in Manhattan, Virginia,
and Worcester, Mass. in various computer programming and systems analyst
jobs. Ultimately became a manager (so I didn't have to fill out time sheets)
and eventually, Vice President of Planning and Technology for a wonderful
NE insurance company (Paul Revere Ins. Co.). Too good to be true. We got
acquired by our chief competitor in 1996. I lasted a year during which
I was Vice President of Data and Information, then jumped. Traveled for
a year, got my kids out of the house, then took a job with a non-profit
as Vice President of Human Resources. That lasted a year and now I'm back
retired...again.
