An Overview of the Battalion Northshore High School's Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program develops leadership abilities in young people and motivates young people to become better citizens. The Senior Army Instructor (SAI) is Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) (ret) Harold Herring and the Army Instructor (AI) is Sergeant First Class (SFC) (ret) Edward Bertucci. For the 2004-2005 school year, cadet Major Teater serves as our Battalion Commander, and cadet Major Lanier serves as our Battalion Executive Officer (Battalion XO). The Army sponsors this program with the school serving as host. The JROTC program is unlike any other program in high school. It gives hands-on challenges and facilitates positive changes in an individual's life while preparing them to serve as leaders in their community. JROTC makes them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens, while presenting opportunities which will benefit the cadet, their city, state, and nation. At Northshore High School, cadets become further involved in JROTC by joining teams. We have many teams, including an armed drill team (spinning rifles), a very active color guard (presentation of the flags), rifle team (marksmanship), and an unarmed drill team (marching). Other teams include P.T. (Physical Training), Raider Team, and Saber Team. To learn more about the program and read FAQs, please visit the About Us page of this site. |
