This is Sally. She just weighs 5 pounds and loves to sit on your shoulder and snuggle under your chin.

General Care For Your Dog

I have found walking dogs on a leash to be a great time to spend with your dog. (It also helps to give me the exercise I need) Papillons do not require much exercise, due to their small size. So your walks can be rather short if you prefer. Walking you dog instills some discipline even if you walk them on a long leash. I have noticed they come more easily to you outside when they are off leash, if they are accustomed to being on leash. You also want to provide a crate for your puppy and let him spend some time in it everyday. He will start to identify it as a den and voluntarily go into it when he wants to rest or feel safe. Some people react to this as a punishment to your dog, but it really is a comfort for him as he grows up. I do not want to see a dog in a cage all day long. However a couple of hours each day or just sleeping in it at night will give him a chance to bond with his “den”. Just put a towel or something soft for him to rest on inside the cage.
