Six Weeks # 4
Six Weeks # 2
The second six weeks of 5th grade math is devoted entirely to decimals.

We will be working on adding, subtracting, comparing, and ordering decimals during the first half of the grading period.

We will be introducing multiplication and division of decimals during the second half of the six weeks.

We will also continue working on estimation, algebra and problem solving (relating these topics to decimals).
The fourth six weeks is devoted to learning geometry.

Geometry involves the study of shapes and angles. It is very vocabulary intensive compared to other units of math.

We will be learning about lines, angles, and shapes.

We will also be finding the perimeter and area of various shapes including: squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, and irregular shapes.

We will conclude the geometry unit with a study of 3-dimensional shapes including: volume, surface area, and nets.

CRCT Practice I
Six Weeks # 5
The course of study for the third six weeks revolves around the study of fractions and mixed numbers.

We will begin by learning about prime numbers and prime factorization of numbers.

Next, we will find the greatest common factor and least common multiple of pairs of numbers.

Then we will learn how to write equivalent fractions, as well as, how to simplify fractions.

Finally, we will learn how to add, subtract, multiply, divide, compare, and order fractions and mixed numbers with like and unlike denominators.
The purpose of the fifth six weeks is twofold.

We will spend about half the time working on analyzing and creating graphs and charts.

The remainder of the time will be spent on reviewing for the CRCT test.

Six Weeks # 6
The final six weeks will be devoted to projects and tasks which review and reflect upon our math work for the entire year. These projects will be 1, 2, or multiple day assignments where students will apply what they have learned this year in math class.
