Notification
A.  If a student accumulates three unexcused absences in a semester, the teacher shall contact the parent(s) or guardian(s) to discuss necessary steps to ensure improved regular attendance.   Teacher will also need to complete the attendance contact form documenting the contact with the parent.
B.  After a student accumulates no more than six unexcused absences in a semester.  the school shall notify the parent by mail that he/she may be in violation of the North Carolina Compulsory School Attendance Law and may be prosecuted if the absences cannot be justified under the established attendance policies

The school social worker will also be notified and will then take action including home visits, letters, phone calls, and/or conferences with student/parents to discuss attendance concerns and legal issues associated with noncompliance to
North Carolina Compulsory Attendance Law (G.S. 115C-378). The school social worker will also document any action taken on the attendance contact form.
C.  If a student accumulates ten unexcused absences in a semester the action will be taken in accordance with local policies and North Carolina Compulsory Attendance Law (G.S. 115C-378) including a conference/meeting to determine whether the parent/guardian has received notification and made good faither effort the comply with the law.  If the principal determines either the parent or the student has not made effort to comply then appropriate legal action may be taken by the school social worker.
