| North Carolina Compulsory Attendance Law (G.S. 115C-378) | |||||||
| The Compulsory Attendance Law (G.S. 115C-378) states every parent, guardian, or other person in North Carolina having charge or control of a child between the ages of 7 and 16 years of age shall cause that child to attend school cotinuously for a period equal to the time which the public school to which the child is assigned is in session. It prohibits any person from encouraging, enticing, or counseling, the child to be unlawfully absent from school. The parent, guardian, or custodian of the child is required to notify the school of the reason(s) for each known absence of the child, in accordance with local school policy.
