The North Harris County Texas
Sigma Kappa Alumnae Chapter

1998-99 Highlights

In September, we kicked off the year with a speaker from a shop in Old Towne Spring. She brought many oils and fragrances to share with us as we learned about the different powers of these oils.

In October, we met to begin plans for the South Central Regional Conference which we will be hosting in February.

In October, the Kingwood SIG met for a social evening with their spouces or significant others.

On October 24, we participated in the 1998 Greater Houston Memory Walk which raised much needed funds for the local Alzheimer's Association.

Founders' Day on November 8 was a lovely day. Lunch was delightful at The Rose Teacup Tea Room in Old Towne Spring. We were pleased to have several members of the new alumnae chapter in Beaumont join us for this special day.

Our Christmas Ornament exchange this year was at Lynn Culver's home. We had a great time exchanging ornaments and getting in the holiday spirit.

In January, the Kingwood SIG hosted a craft night for the entire chapter. We made lovely herb bottles, with herbs fresh from Linda Barnett's garden.

In February, a year's worth of planning came to fruition when we hosted the South Central Regional Conference at the Marriott West Loop in Houston. Our theme was "Sisterhood's Alive at 125" and that it was as 116 Sigma Kappas from Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas met to share our wonderful bond. In February, we also enjoyed opening night of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

In March, we enjoyed dinner at Suzanne's Bakery and Restaurant on FM 1960.

In April, we began a tradition by volunteering at the Shell Houston Open Professional Golf Tournament. We had a wonderful booth on the 18th fairway. Coupled with the Birdies for Charity program, we raised almost $3000.00 for the Houston Alzheimer's Association.

In May, we closed out a very successful year with a salad supper at Jan Joplin's home.
