Sometimes a project evolves from nothing more than leftover parts. I've been redesigning the FC type 2 body and thanks to the experimental design stage, I was left with 3 extra bodies. Blah, blah, blah, yaddi, yaddi, yaddi .... a Martian Manhunter customwas born.

Martian Manhunter measures 9.625" (1:8 scale height of 6'5"). I think the DC guide lists him at 6'7", but he's still half a head taller than Flash, GL and Wonder Woman and that's mainly what I was after.

I thought Hasbro did a great job on their 9" head sculpt, but it's rather large even with an acetone treatment. With a 3-D model at hand, it was easy to reproduce the head sculpt but at a smaller scale. I made some modifications to the head like elongating the face, thinning down the cheek bones and making the ears less prominent.

The cape came from the KB 9" MM. I added red vinyl straps and gold clasps to round out the costume. I used a steel carbide surgical blade to etch in the lines on the belt buckle. The boots are my new Lycra/ RTV hybrid design. I casted ultra thin platinum based silicon boots and lined it with lycra. I used 3M 77 glue to attach the lycra to the silicon. The platinum silicon is thin and flexible enough for a snug fit yet sturdy enough to gives the boots form (aka prevents it from looking like socks).

I opted for an olive green paint job instead of the classic neon green. I wanted a darker look to the character. I also tinked around with my airbrush trying various bleeding processes. Needless to say, I have a way to go before I achieve the results of a Jerry Buchanan or Ron Kenyon. That said, I'm still happy with the results especially around the abs and pects.

Overall, it was kind of a boring project, but I do need a tall bulking Martian Manhunter for my JLA.
