The Scarlet Speeder is probably the most done custom in the FC format. When I started this project I wanted to make mine a little different from other versions, but didn't know how. One day, while watching WB network, I saw a promo for Dawson's Creek and remembered an old face ..... John Wesley Shipp.

In the mid 80's, JWS portrayed Barry Allen in the Flash TV series. I now had my Flash, but still had the problem of acquiring reference photos for the head sculpt. JWS was never a big star so as you can imagine, there are not many websites devoted to him. In the end, I endured 2 painful episodes of Dawson's Creek just to acquire the images I needed. Boy, the sacrifices we make for our hobbies :-). I used still frames from the show, but took some artistic liberties with the sculpting process to de-age him (tightening up his cheeks and removing some of the wrinkles and lines on his face). Who needs a face peel when you can experience Tung's plastic makeover in a couple of hours :-).

I digress, the figure itself is pretty standard. I used a modified FC type 1 body with increased articulation and a new sculpted fist. The removable gloves were made from Tool-Dip. The lower part of the boots made from a flexible resin and lined with lycra to give it the same texture and feel as the upper part of the boot (yellow lycra and lined with 1mm thick pleather to give it some form). The downside of lining the boots with lycra is that it covers up the details of boot soles. You can remove the boots, but it's a pain in the rear to put back on since I made it too form fitting. I added 2 mm to Flash's leg increasing his height to 9" (a scale size of 6'0" which fits with the DC Universe guide).

To see how the removable mask was made, go this page.

The detachable hairpiece was also made in a similar manner as my Black Canary wig system, but involves plastic instead of rubber.
