Think about your topic. Write down what you
already know in the
"K" column.
Then make a list of questions you should answer
in the "W" column.
Identify Key Words
Look at the topics and terms listed in your
section.
Make a list of synonyms for these words.
Write down the
name of the source and the website when you first
access it.
Use the Key Words
as you Skim And Scan
Read fast
Read the first and last paragraphs of the
article or site.
Read the first and last sentences of each
paragraph
Look for:
Contents page
Index
Your Keywords
Words in Bold or Italics
Pictures & their Captions
Charts
Graphs
Statistics
Summary Boxes
Timeline/Chronology
Glossary
When you see a keyword, slow down and read the entire
paragraph.
Take Notes in the
"L" column.
Once you have found important information, record it next to
the
appropriate question on your KWL chart.
Write down the source! You must know where you got the
information in order to do your bibliography.
