On with the guns! Quake 2 has a nice selection of weapons to suit your style. The good thing in Quake 2 is that each weapon has its good side and also downside (except the blaster, it sucks)

1.
BLASTER
Ammo Type- None (Infinite Ammo)
Shot rate-Medium
Shot speed- Slow
Damage- 10-15
Default key- 1

Description- The Blaster is your starting weapon. Its your last resort weapon if you have no other guns.

Upside- For one thing, its got infinite ammo but that doesn't matter since Quake 2 maps usually have plenty of ammo. Good for chasing someone up close.

Downside- Well, it can only really be used in close combat and thats it.

Recommendation- Try to get another gun. Even a handgrenade is better. Only good for annoying people.

Adgman Dodgin' Tips- Don't bother dodging this just take it in and fire back.

2.Shotgun
Ammo Type- Shells (Max 50.)
Shot rate- Medium
Shot Speed- Fast
Damage- 10-50
Default Key- 2

Description- Ahh.... The good 'ol shotgun. This one is a very conservative sucker which can pack a punch if used by an expert.

Upside- Great for close combat and light pelting faraway. Covers a large area due to the shells spreading so theres really no need for accuracy.

Downside- The damage is too little.

Recommendation- Better then the blaster. Good for chasing people with annoying people from long distances (Remember every bullet counts!)

Adgman Dodgin' Tips- Sidestep and fire back. Shouldn't be a big concern

3.Super Shotgun

Ammo Type- Shells (Max 50.)
Shot Rate- Slow

Shot Speed- Fast
Damage- 10-100!
Default Key 3

Description- The mother of shotguns. This baby, although very crude in accuracy can easily pack a punch.

Upside- Little aiming required due to large spread of fire. Excellent for close combat and light pelting from a distance. One well aimed point blank shot can easily score you a frag.

Downside- Using 2 shells instead of one. Ammo is chewed up easily. Reload is also a hassle so you can't just mow the enemy down.

Recommendations- The Super Shotgun is a versatile weapon. With some skill you can frag enemies wielding railguns or rocket launchers. You may have trouble if you are fighitng medium-long distance though.

Adgman Dodgin' Tips- Either run away or attempt to sidestep

4.Machine Gun

Ammo Type- Bullets (Max 200.)
Shot Rate- N/A
Shot Speed- Rapid fast
Damage- 5-10 a bullet
Default Key 4

Description- The junior of automatic weapons. Accuraccy combined with ammo conservation in an automatic weapon? Well thats what it is in a nutshell

Upside- Great accuracy and rapid fire as well. Good for medium and long distance battles.

Downside- Well since its ammo conserving, damage sucks and so it takes forever to kill someone.

Recommendations- Only for medium and long distance battles. Only useful when you have no other weapons.

Adgman Dodgin' Tips- Jump around. It makes it hard for the guy with the machine gun. Counter with rockets

5.Chaingun

Ammo Type- Bullets (Max 200.)
Load Time- A Few Seconds
Shot Speed- Rapid Ballistic
Damage- 5-10 a bullet
Default Key 5

Description- A psychopaths favourite. No aiming required. Just point and hold on and chase the enemy til they fall over.

Upside- Shoots an insane amount of bullets causing extreme damage. Great for close up and long distance where those suckers are so small they're hard to hit with aiming. Just watching them run just makes you laugh as you mow 'em down.

Downside- In about 5-10 seconds all you fun is gone- Not enough bullets. Also by the time you've wound up the chaingun, the guys probaly run out of the room! Takes time to wound down if you stop shooting.

Adgman Dodgin' Tips- Run around corners under stairs. Just don't stand around. Wait for the guy to run out of ammo before fighting (You should hear a distinct 'click' when the Quaker has run out of ammo)

Recommendations- Great for last ditch attempts, cover fire for escaping and chasing people.

6.Grenade Launcher

Ammo Type- Grenades (Max 50.)
Shot rate- Slow
Shot Speed- Bouncey
Damage- 30-100 a grenade
Default Key 6

Description- Tactics abode. Grenades bounce around and explode after about five seconds.

Upside- Beautiful weapon for shooting around corners when being chased and for escapes. A well aimed grenade can also kill an enemy with one shot. Grenades are also hard to see and can act as mines if you 'pop' them around a room.Read more at the Advanced Page.

Downside- Large blast radius means you can also hurt yourself. Also you can tread on your own grenades if you are not careful. Bad rebounds may coz the grenade to kill you.

Recommendations- Only for experts or the desperate. Great when in high places or in packed rooms- Just chuck the grenades everywhere and watch everyone die. Sweeet!

Adgman Dodgin' Tips- Sidestep as often as possible. Grenades only hurt when hit on impact. Counter with any other weapon. As long as you keep sidestepping it should be fine.

7.Rocket Launcher

Ammo Type- Rockets (Max 50.)
Shot rate- Medium
Shot Speed- Slow
Damage- 20-100 a rocket
Default 7

Description- The Legendry Rocket Launcher of FPS's. Always a nice item to pick up. Explosives rule!

Upside- Close combat god. A direct hit usually sees the enemy splatter in a million pieces. Otherwise 'splash damage' (when the rocket explodes) will hurt the enemy pretty badly. Medium fire means that rockets can be thrown everywhere withouth aiming. See Advanced Page.

Downside- Again the Rocket Launcher can kill yourself if you're not careful. Poor at long distance since rockets travel slower then bullets. Though with a little calculation this can be fixed.

Recommendations- For experienced players. Fire like hell and watch 'em dodge. Great for packed rooms. Not reommended when chasing people.

Adgman Dodgin' Tactics- Run while sidestepping or close combat with enemy. Counter with rockets or shotguns. Automatic weapons are pretty useless.

8. Hyperblaster

Ammo Type- Cells (Max 200)
Load Time- More than chaingun
Shot Speed- Medium Rapid
Damage- 10-20 a cell
Default Key 8

Description- Futuristic top end weapon. Makes a sizzling sound when the shot makes contact with skin. It hurts! It hurts!

Upside- Very nice automatic weapon. Combines accuracy with powerful shots. Even one cell can cause heavy damage

Downside- Like the chaingun, it takes time for it to wind up and wind down but a little quicker. Its slow show speed makes it a poor weapon for medium-long range combat.

Recommendations- For experienced players. Good firepower doesn't mean good playability.

Adgman Dodgin Tactics- Run until the dude's run out of ammo or counter with rockets.

9.Railgun

Ammo Type- Slugs (Max 50)
Shot Rate- Very slow
Shot Speed- Instantaneous
Damage- 50-120
Default Key 9

Description- The only sniper weapon in Quake 2. Unfortunately without a scope it makes it hard to play with. A player can be killed before they know what hit them.

Upside- DAMAGE. Perfect for those nasty campers (I hate them) Super accurate and instantaneous fire. One well aimed shot can kill someone with even 100 armour (I think its armour piercing) Designed for long distance.

Downside- RELOAD TIME. My god. By the time you've reloaded and ready for the next shot, its lights out for you! This is why you have to have calm hands to use this weapon.

Recommendation- For experienced players. Most top end weapons are like that. See Advanced

Adgman Dodgin Tactics- Sidestep like hell! One shot from this and you're dead. If long distance keep jumping, if short counter with rockets or shotgun.

10 BFG 10K

Ammo Type- Cells (Max 200)
Shot Rate- Extremely slow
Shot Speed- Very slow
Load time- Very long
Damage- 20-500
Default Key 0

Description- The mother of all blessid Quake 2 weapons. Once you've got this weapon, you're ready to rock! Fires a large green ball which spreads light rays to quakers in the near vicinity.

Upside- My tick of approval. Great for obliterating the enemy. Just aim in the general direction and watch 'em disnergrate.

Downside- Awful load time and reload time. Chews 50 cells every charge. Before you fire, somebody may have 'railed' you.

Recommendation- For everyone! Nuff' said I think.

Adgman Dodgin' Tactics- Run, do whatever, jump off the cliff, run around the corner when you hear the BFG charge sound. If the BFG wielder is in front of you try for a direct rocket or railgun. Best chances are that the BFG guy is standing still.
