In the wake of the violence that has been happening lately there are something's that I would like to get off my chest.

First off, it indeed is a tragedy which occurred. Anytime a human life is lost it is a sad thing. The media is simply dumbfounded that this could happen. They are out to blame everyone for the death of these kids. The only problem is that they are blaming the entertainment industry. Sure movies, television, and videogames are violent contributors to our society. The main contributor however I would say is the news media. They would never admit to this of course. When someone turns on the television at night to watch the evening news (that person not being me, I stopped watching a long time ago) everything that they see is all the bad in the world. Murder, rape, theft, any sick imaginable thing you could possibly think of they will show you. They blame everyone but them selves for the violence today and will show you ever bit of the violence that they think is pertinent information. They will show you that so many people died in the Columbine High School deaths, which yes it is not supposed to happen. What they won't show you is that across the country in a low-income violent neighborhood someone else was shot and killed. You want to know why? Because it isn't supposed to happen to upper-middle income mostly white neighborhoods. It's only supposed to happen in the low level income/ghetto type of environment because it is accepted as being more commonplace. What baffles me is how is one human life more valuable than the other? Simply because of someone's social status, that being of lesser income should make them a lesser person? Certainly not and I am queasy at the thought of this is how the media portrays the news to us. The fact that they will show and tell every gruesome detail of how the murder will took place is sickening , and the fact that they will never tell you the story of how everyone else lived. The media HAS to change. We need a media that will show us the good in life. The negatives are always the easiest to find, showing the positive is much more difficult but definitely more rewarding to society.

Secondly, I'm completely taken back at the situation in Serbia. Especially now with the recent outcry over the bombing of the Chinese embassy. The thing that amazes the author is that suddenly society has got the notion that we should go back to the days of the civil war. We should go back to the old days where two armies agreed on a time to meet out in the middle of the field, the band would play then the killings would begin. The armies would line up and try to mow the other down as quickly as possible to win the battle. Well, I'm sorry folks. That isn't the way war is carried out anymore. Innocent people have and will die in wars. The Chinese are crying foul that their embassy was bombed. Do these people not realize that the embassy is in a war zone? Sure a journalist and other innocent people died in the bombing. Sure it's sad, but other innocent people have been dying as well. We seem to believe that the only people that should die are the people wearing uniforms. Have you ever begun to think that the people wearing the uniform may be an innocent person as well? Hard to believe but true. This person maybe someone forced into working for the army to defend his country even if he doesn't believe in it. Should we kill him too? Where does it end? Is he any less of a person than the journalist that died? No. You'll never hear of it though in the news of course. Another thing that has bothered me about this situation is the feelings of many that this is genocide and we must stop it at all costs. Stopping genocide is hardly easy. Also why must we get involved in this genocide when we have decided in the past to abstain from doing anything. In case you don't remember there was a genocide occurring in Rwanda. It's a small country in the middle of Africa, next to the Congo. Hutus were killing Tutsis right and left, it would have been better had we done nothing at all. However we did do something. We sided with the Hutus. You remember them right? The people that were carrying out the genocide. Hard to believe but true. The reason being is that we helped to establish the Hutus in power in the government. So as you can see , we only get involved when it won't make us look bad. What a bunch of bullshit. Oh , and the press reaction to this? I don't really know. According to a book I read , most times the stories of the butcherings were a side-note on a back page of the paper , if it got even that much recognition.

I've ranted for long enough right now. I do have a bit of good news. There is a news service that is going to be started up called Good News Now. It's being started by Billy Zane, the actor from such movies as "The Phantom" , "Titanic" (he played the evil rich guy) , and others. The URL for this page is http://www.gnnow.com. It should be up and running by the end of next week , so please check it out and turn off the nightly news.
