There have been efforts made to have land and resources returned to Tangata Whenua throughout the country, likewise Ngati Aukiwa maintain claims against the Crown of England.
Included are sections of the Waitangi Tribunal findings contained in the "Muriwhenua Land Report 1997". While this report covers all of the upper north, it does include information on what happened in the rohe of Te Aukiwa.
The report makes many references to "Hapu" and identifies "Ngati Aukiwa" as a prodominant "Hapu" in the rohe.
To ensure best outcomes for Ngati Aukiwa the working party team are insisting that Ngati Aukiwa has direct negoiations with the Crown of England and the Waitangi Tribunal. That Uri of Ngati Aukiwa receive, nurture and presevre all lands, resources and compensation returned by the Crown.
Part of this process is to provide this type of information to build awareness among ourselves and recognise everyones right to have a say. Ngati Aukiwa working party has a core belief that, desicions soon to be made are not the exclusive right of a few representatives. These matters are extremely serious, they are real and they are permanent.

Te Tirity O Waitangi claims and eventual settlement of those claims are pivotal to the future development of Ngati Aukiwa and descendants. We as a hapu have many assets belonging to us all and have the potential to earn money and employ people. .
