Showdown 2002 Endorsed by Coaches Association
"Wizards of the Coast
Inc., a subsidiary of Hasbro, has announced that the NFL Showdown 2002 product
will be the first sports card game of its kind to be endorsed by the National
Football League Coaches Association (NFLCA).
The NFL card game is the most recent addition to the Wizards
of the Coast Showdown Sports line, which also includes similar games for Major
League Baseball as well as the NBA.
'The NFL Showdown 2002 sports card game provides a realistic
and authentic football experience,' said Larry Kennan, executive director of the
National Football League Coaches Association. 'It's a great strategic game that
really puts you on the sidelines as an NFL coach.'
Simulating an actual football game, NFL Showdown 2002 allows
players to act as owners and coaches of their own NFL teams by drafting and
building teams, calling plays and developing overall game strategy. It combines
the fun of card gaming with trading and collecting cards and the strategic
elements of fantasy sports and actual sports games.
This innovative new game is also the first of its kind to
incorporate an electronic reader. The PlayGrid card reader is a handheld
scanning device used specifically in the NFL Showdown 2002 sports card game that
allows football fans of all ages to play a strategic and statistically accurate
football game without sacrificing the fast-paced action of an actual NFL game.
The PlayGrid device reads, decodes and stores information from cards that are
swiped through its electronic scanner. The PlayGrid card reader will be
available only in the NFL Showdown 2002 two-player Starter Set.
