The Saci-perer�,
THE SMALL ONE-LEGGED YOUNGSTER
This is the forest joker,called Saci-perer�.He is a one-legged youngster. He bursts into a laugh if someone tumbles down or gets lost in the forest.
Saci appears only at night because he is under the power of the moonlight. He can turn himself into an little owl called Mati-taper�, a bad augury bird. He is also the spirit of the Munducurus, a warlike tribe along the basin of the Tapaj�s, Amazonas and Par� rivers.
He appears also in the brazilian black people's folklore like a young negro that uses a red beret and smokes a little pipe. They call him Saci. The pictures shows a Saci from the Txucaram�e tribe - people from the Amazon forest that is used to scrape their forehead hair as a pattern of beauty.
Even the women are used to do so. |
