AKA Stuff You Might Not Know About ELR and its Cast

Dedicated to Christine - my inspiration, my muse, my shnookie.

In the opening credits for seasons 3-5, when Ray and Debra spot the family walking across the street and they try to lock the door, Ray used a stunt man to do the little flip. The stunt man was also a stand-in for Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator, and finished that movie without being injured. But, during the flip that he did for Ray, he hurt his nose on the end table.

"Why Are We Here" was written especially for Patricia Heaton, who was very very pregnant.

Jane Sibbett (Ross's lesbian wife from "Friends") auditioned for the part of Debra.

Maggie Wheeler who plays Linda on the show and Janice on Friends, Was Phil Rosenthal's choice as Debra Barone but the network wanted to go another way.

Like her character, Patricia has a sister who is nun.

Phil Rosenthal has a daughter named Lily Rebecca, born on August 2.

Jeri Ryan, of Star Trek Voyager fame, is Ray Romano's next door neighbor.

Brad Garret once competed on Star Search against Fred Stoller, who plays Cousin Gerard.

Patricia Heaton teaches Sunday school.

Doris Roberts was given a piece of the Twin Towers by a New York firefighter.

The day after Ray lost on Star Search, his daughter was born.

John Lennon was the best man at Peter Boyle's wedding.

Peter Boyle studied for a while to be a Dominican monk.

Brad Garrett is 6 feet 8-1/2 inches tall.

Both Brad and Ray are college dropouts.

Ray went to Hillcrest High School with Fran Drescher and the two were in the same graduating class. They never met. However in 1998, Fran Drescher asked Ray Romano to guest star on her show, The Nanny in the episode, "Reunion Show." Ray played Ray Barone in the appearance.

Despite what you may think "King of Queens" is NOT a spin off of Everybody Loves Raymond. However; It was Kevin James writing and appearing in the episode "Golf" that got him his own series.

Speaking of Kevin James before he got his own series his character on the show was named Kevin after his show started his characters name changed to match his character name on his own show, Doug.

One last bit of King of Queen's/Everybody Loves Raymond knowledge, all 5 of the lead cast members have guest stared on King of Queens as there Everybody Loves Raymond Characters. In the episodes entitled, "Dire Strayts," "Rayny Day" and "Road Rayge."

ELR seems to be the king of crossovers because Peter Boyle and Ray Romano also guest stared as there ELR characters on an episode of the now canceled Cosby on the episode,"Lucas Raymondicus."

One last crossover mention, Ray guest stared on Becker as Ray Barone in the episode, "Drive He Said."

The Character of Amy on the Show is played by the Creator Phil Rosenthal's Wife, Monica Horan.

Everybody Loves Raymond loves to keep it in the family. To see all of the cast and crews family appearances on the show see my FAQ

Ray Romano makes an appearance in the Documentary Comedian about Jerry Seinfeld.

The Twin's on the show were originally played by the Ferreira triplets and were named Matthew and Gregory after Ray's real life twins. After the pilot aired and the show was picked up by CBS they recast the with the Sweeten twins (who's older sister Madilyn plays Ally) and renamed them Michael and Geoffrey.

Brad Garrett did a comedy tour with Sinatra when he was only 18.

Brad proposed to his wife (then girlfriend), Jill, on the set of ELR.

Doris loves Bruce Springstein.

Middle names of the actors: Albert (Ray), Helen (Patricia), Mae (Doris).

Brad Garrett's birth name is Brad H. Gerstenfeld

Peter Boyle had a heart attack on the set of Everybody Loves Raymond during the third season. He of course is all better now.

Ray Romano was cast to play the role that eventually went to Joe Rogan on NewsRadio he was fired the second day of rehearsals.

Ray was the slowest finger on the celebrity addition of Who Wants To Be a Millionare. He did end up winning 125,000 for charity though.

Brad Garrett was a voice in the popular 80's cartoon Transformers!!!

Patricia Heaton has had some plastic surgery on her stomach and on "the ladies," which she is very open about.

The entire ELR cast was in New York on September 11th, 2001 together, scheduled to be interviewed on The Rosie O' Donnell Show.

For the opening of the seventh season most of the cast and crew dressed up in Hawaiian shirts, in honor of the episode being taped, "The Cult." In which Robert was led into a cult who wore Hawaiian shirts.

The Character Doris Roberts played on Remington Steele was not in the original cast. The show had a major overhall between its 1st and 2nd seasons two people were dropped from the cast and Mildred Krebs was introduced.

The only permanent ELR set is Ray and Deb's living room/kitchen all other sets are put up and taken down as the shoot calls for it.

The Canister from the episode crazily known as "The Canister"  now resides in Ray/Deb kitchen on a shelf under and to the left of the sink.

Ray offered Patricia $10,000 to do her 2000 Emmy speech in a fake British accent.

Jeri Ryan (of Star Trek Voyager fame) Whom we have already established as Ray Romano's next door neighbor, was the one to present him and the rest of the Everybody Loves Raymond cast their Screen Actor's Guild Award for best ensemble comedy in 2003. Which is coincidentally the first SAG Award for the show.

After the Emmys, Dennis Weaver (McCloud) called Ray and asked for his father.

In the sixth season episode No Roll! Ray and Debra play Sensualopoly on the first roll Debra is supposed to "Kiss her lover as if he was going to war." after the episode was taped the September 11th attacks happened and when the episode aired they changed the line to "Kiss your lover as if they were going to Everest." now that the episode is in syndication the war line is now used instead of the dubbed in Everest line.
