Comments from the Camp |
Over the Labour weekend 1997 we booked the Rocky Valley Camp for a 'Grand Get-together' of saints.
We didn't know many of those who indicated they would like to come along. Neither did many of them
know each other. Yet people came together sensing a leading from God to be there. We had no idea
of how the weekend was going to come together, yet knew that God had an agenda. Here are some
comments from some of those who came ...

"I loved the Labour Weekend Grand Get Together I really enjoyed meeting other people who
unterstand what it is to walk a "different way" with the Lord. Lots of neat, neat people.
The thing that was most precious to me was that nobody played emotional games. God was soverign.
God touched my spirit, the deep deep places in such a gentle, quiet, natural way. I came away
brimming over with God ... not a Camp Leader.

"To meet with a group of people who Through various circumstances have left the organised church
system was a great experience. The word 'fellowship' comes to mind and hs was my experience with
you as we communed together after the meetings. As far as I am concerned, meetings handed over to
the Holy Spirit were an inspiration to me. Thank you Father for the Joy of sharing together the
Presence of God as a family of His children."

"We were deeply ministered to by the Cord that weekend through His church. We had some great
fellowship with believers that we felt immediately a oneness with. What was really exciting for
me was seeing God's hand on my life more clearly because of the similarity of other believers
testimonies to our own. After a particularly difficult stage in my Christian walk, the
Get-together helped restore my vision."

"For us it really was a weekend to remember. Great food and facilities, and it was really
good to be able to get together with so many Christians, all of whom we had never met before -
and be able to share about our Wonderful Lord in such a relaxed manner without doctrines coming
between us.
Our time was spent almost entirely in fellowship with others, sharing our experiences of the
past and our aspirations for the future. Most enjoyable and profitable. When Monday afternoon
arrived we really did not want to leave. There was a great deal of "speaking to one another"
(Mal 3:16) with "those that loved the Lord." and it is thrilling to know that it is all recorded
in "God's book of remembrance."
Our grateful thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this such an enjoyable weekend."

"Something wonderful happened at our camp. It was an encounter with the living God. It came about
through a people willing to step out in obedience to the voice of God. What happened was a group
of people hungry for God, coming together and having communion for three days, face to face -
heart to heart. There was no place for pretence, although I'm certain some found it disconcerting
because of the depth of honesty expressed within a group who had not met before. I cannot call
them strangers as these were dear brothers and sisters who were of one mind and one spirit.
Clearly God's hand was upon us and the hearts of many were knit together in such a way that I'm
sure many life-long friendships were started. All shared of the trials and afflictions that they
had passed through and were still passing through. The Holy Spirit gave such reassurance that
"The pain was for a purpose." The Church God is building is a church after His design, not one
pattered after this world - and no sound from any tool will be heard while it is being built.
(1 Kings 6:7) The pain the Church is experiencing is a result of God requiring man to put away
their tools. i.e. Man's structures and programmes. God abhors it when His people put their trust
in the ways of man and the strength of the flesh.
Too many of today's churches have unwittingly allowed themselves to become so structured that
they have become very much like the Old Testament Tabernacle, the sacrifices no longer pleasing
to God. The real danger with regulation and control is that people become like puppets, no
longer worshipping God in Spirit and in Truth, their lives orchestrated by another master. This
master being very demanding and requiring a "Martha" like mentality. The fact that service is
required is obvious, but at His bidding and in His time. Anything instituted by man tends to be
detrimental to the welfare of His body. Whatever we do, needs to be done under the anointing or
prompting of the Holy Spirit.
A very real life example of God's anointing or presence was evidenced at camp. People came
together unto Him. There was no pretence or hidden agendas, just a people wishing to have
communion with God and each other with an openness of heart. I found it very refreshing, and
humbling, to fellowship where there was no competitiveness nor the accompanying rejection.
People trusted one another and shared deep intimacies concerning God's dealings in their lives,
their weaknesses and their pain - and I felt really privileged to be a part of it all.
Some who joined in part way through the camp could have been excused for thinking this was a
group of people 'hurt' by the church. This was no group of malcontents wanting a forum to air
their gripes and to have people comfort them. This was a group of people serious about God,
only seeking reassurance that this was God's work and looking for the purpose in His dealings.
There were no spotlight ministry teams, the only ministry I witnessed was "body ministry" that
occurred spontaneously, naturally, outside the informal meetings. It was great!
It has been a long time since I've had the joy of being in the company of "Heart People".
There was no need to "break through" for the anointing. This was not showmanship, just the
reality of "where two or three have gathered together in My Name, there am I in there midst."
And all those attending camp can say along with the disciples on the road to Emmaus, when they
recognised it was Jesus with whom they had been communing, "Didn't our hearts burn within us."

Who's really in Authority?
We must take heed that where there is not the Holy Spirit, there is not the church. The church
from beginning to end can only have one authority, one power and one life, which is the Holy
Spirit. There is only one life of the Holy Spirit, only one power of the Holy Spirit, only one
authority of the Holy Spirit ... When the Holy Spirit has complete authority then the whole body
will move without hindrance. As soon as there is hindrance in a certain part, the whole body
becomes sick. When everyone is under the authority of the Holy Spirit, He can use everyone -
then there is no hindrance in the body. Everything goes smoothly.
Therefore if a brother likes to speak and make decisions by himself, the authority of the
Holy Spirit is damaged - the Body of Christ is damaged, and the church is damaged. Consequently,
there is no church in that place. It is not that there is a place with a signboard put up and
then there is the church. But it is that brothers and sisters lay down their own thought and
subject themselves to the authority of the Holy Spirit. Then the Holy Spirit can flow without
there being a hindrance ... The Lord has never granted you the authority to make your own
proposals.
You can only be the channel of authority - not the authority itself.
