Fellow Woodworker:
Membership in the Northeastern Wisconsin Woodworkers Guild is open to all amateur and professional woodworkers, male and female. New members are welcome.
Some of the benefits of membership:
Since the Guild’s inception, members have shared their common interests and knowledge with one another. The Guild has expanded to more than 100 members with a wide range of interests and skill levels. It is an exciting, dynamic group of people of all ages. We look forward to meeting new members.
- Monthly lectures and workshops presented by accomplished woodworkers. Opportunities to request programs about topics that interest you.
- Free access to the Guild’s extensive, continually growing lending library of books, videotapes, and plans — more than 300 items. Members can request new additions by title or topic.
- Bench Talk, the official monthly publication of the Guild, is filled with information about upcoming meetings, workshops, and tours, as well as book and magazine reviews, free “buy-sell-trade” information, plans for jigs and fixtures, and other articles of interest.
- A forum for exchanging ideas and information about equipment, techniques, sources, and solving wood-working problems.
- Separate monthly meetings of members interested in wood carving, with “hands-on” sessions focused on carving techniques, sharpening, design, and painting.
- Annual Spring Show to exhibit our work and demonstrate our talents — held every year since 1983.
- Field trips to or news about other exhibitions, trade shows, and places of interest to woodworkers.
- Opportunities to contribute toys to charity as a group. Wooden toys are especially welcome treasures.
- Annual summer picnic and festive December potluck.
- Good will, fellowship, and problem solving.
Here are some activities, lectures, and workshops our members have enjoyed:
If any of these activities interest you, you must be a woodworker. You would benefit from being a member of the Guild and we would benefit from having you as a member. Join us and share the excitement of woodworking! Guild meetings are open to all and everyone is welcome.
- Making wood joints, including dovetails, with power and hand tools, veneering, gluing, laminating, routering, turning, spray and hand finishing, furniture refinishing, intarsia, and bowl and toy making.
- Using hand and power tools, tool maintenance, sharpening, shop safety, and dust collection and control.
- Making and using jigs, fixtures, and special setups.
- Improving accuracy and correcting errors.
- Designing and building cabinets, furniture, and toys.
- Field trips to wood shows, exhibits, and manufacturers of wood products, tools, and accessories.
- Sources for project hardware, where to find hard-to-find materials and items.
- Identifying wood, selecting wood for projects, using lumber, plywood, and veneer, and working with different woods.
- Woodworking as a business or hobby. Tips for pricing and selling your work.
If you are uncertain about whether to join, you are invited to come to a “test” meeting or two and begin to enjoy the fellowship of others who share your interest in wood and woodworking.
Sincerely,
The Members of the Northeastern Wisconsin Woodworkers Guild
